That CLR just looked so easy to dry burn & re-wick...

Well, that dry burn didn't go. Gently pulled out the wick, coil didn't seem to move at all, but obviously it was enough to knock one of the wires out of position in the pin, so my dry burn was a non-event (got 'no atomizer' error on my VTC Mini). Will have to strip it down and re-coil... Damn! :-x

Any trick to getting the wick out without the slightest move in the wire? Hold the wire with tweezers?

be sure the coil wire AND wick is plenty wet ! !
ESPECIALLY if it is the FIRST factory wrap

tweezers- gently grab an end and TWIST, screw the wick out (thread it like a screw)
might have to 'tease-it' some to begin -- then go to the other side of wick and do the same

make sure ya keep it wet and you'll probably get your hands messy

factory wicks have been the hardest for me, once you make your own (rewick or rebuild) it should become easier

good luck

@DebbieNY - I agree with @pufZeppelin, above. The factory wick can be tricky to get out without messing up the coil.
THAT SAID, I have had a few times where I just needed to re-screw everything one more time, while watching the reading on the mod, to see if the "no atomizer" reading is correct. Try taking off the tank, and just screw the base and coil into your mod - test fire with just a quick push, and see if you are still getting a no atomizer reading.
Works for me ....sometimes. I've only had ONE coil that truly is dead. The others just had a sweet spot, and by cranking down too tightly, I think I was pinching the wire or ??

Well I'm back! I finally got out one of my new ego tanks and put in a CLR coil! I put in a .5 coil and I am coughing my head off! Maybe the .5 coil is way to airy! Should I try one of my 1.0 coils instead?
This .5 coil is too much for this Tootle Puffer!

try taking one of the " BOTTOM PINS " (red/yellow arrow) out of a 1.0Ω coil & put it in the .5Ω coil
now the .5Ω will burn hot enuff but have MUCH LESS air flow...

take note of the POSITIVE wire (leg) (blue arrow) so NOT TO DISTURB during pin swap

I build all of mine: from .4Ω - .9Ω

I just put in a 1.0 coil and a different juice! Much much better! I guess the coil and a new juice I'm not crazy about where a bad combo!
I'll try swapping the bottom pin at a later date and this new juice just might have to find a new home!
But I am happily vaping on the 1.0 coil with a favorite juice!

Thanks! Does anyone here use the .5 on a regular basis?
My first Ego Ones were Piffed to me. Came with several TC coils (probably will never use) and two .5 CLRs. They were my my first subohm experience. I actually really enjoyed the vapor. But as the majority of my preferred mods can't fire below 1.2 I had no intention of staying there. Quickly rebuilt to 1.4ish. I like a tighter DTL so the airy center pin of .5 is working ok for me with the tank AFC closed way down.
I do have a pack of 1.0s coming from FT. (Should be here any month now) Hoping the tighter center pin might give me a wider range of adjustment on the tank AFC?

I'm guessin' you know (understand) - but thought it relevant to mention... ;)

restricting the air flow with the 'AFC' will effect how your coil wicks

it creates a 'rich' / 'lean' condition (too much juice to air OR to much air to juice ratio)

biggest trouble results in not enuff air which forces excess juice into wick (flooding/gurgle)
