I took apart one of the 1 ohm clr coils that i had previously put in new cotton.
Wanted to see how hard it is to make a coil around 1 ohm as i like that particular vape.

I compared it to my 26g kanthal a-1 wire with my jewelers eye piece as eyesight is not so good anymore.
Not a match
Compared it to my 28g and it seemed like a match or at least i saw no difference.

Used a 2.4 ml rod and made 6 wraps vaped for a day at 1.20 ohms
Next made 5 coil wrap and and it came to 1.04 ohms which was a personal enjoyment.

For me personally happy to say it was easy to do .

Nice. I've only rebuilt one and have been using them for weeks. I'm starting to get impatient to build another.

By the way @Cheechako, out of pure contrariness I rebuilt an eLeaf 1.5Ω coil today. Got it at 1.10Ω and it vapes like a champ. Not nearly as easy as the 1.0 CLR, but I like knowing I will always have coils for my eLeafs since I have 8 tanks that use them.

Cheers to you! :w00t:
Not an easy task as the manufacturer did everything they could to stop you.
A very fine vape once rebuilt.
I have mine in "vape" storage as back ups.

Yeah, most of mine are in storage also. I have a GS Air 2 that I'm using for a pocket vape, and one of the 2.5ml that I swap out juice vapes in just for a change of pace. The 2.5 was starting to taste a little stale, so I rebuilt it. Thanks for teaching me.

You're welcome!
The CLR coil is so much easier to deal with and produces a stellar vape no matter if you're using kanthal or a TC wire.
I'll never quit using coils that can be replaced at the drop of the hat. Too convenient.
I like recoiling at my discretion in advance when I have the time, found the RTA's and RBA's to be a pain.
Yeah, I could get a great vape, but I like changeable coils.

I know I can play with gauges and IDs to get where I want but I kindly ask that when people post how many wraps they use can you specify with the accepted n/(n+1) method for these types of coils.

When you wrap a coil once and the leads are at opposite ends, that is 1 wrap. Looking at the coil from the top or bottom you see one wrap.

With these coils the leads end up on the same side and you say "one wrap" that could mean two different things.

Some might call the above coil 7 wraps and some might say 8. From what I read online the correct way to describe the number of wraps is 7/8, or some might say 7 1/2 wraps.

Disclaimer: I am in no way complaining, just trying to make it clearer for everyone who wants to try and replicate a coil.

Total wraps looking from the top counting all of them first coil was 6 @1.20ohm
second time around total wraps counting all of them was 5 @ 1.04

when i use to wrap ss mesh years back i always counted total wraps .
But i understand where your coming from. ; )

this is what I've settled on to describe my wraps
at first I was smitten with the full wrap / half wrap deal
I just look down on the work and what I see ♪ is what I get

haha, well it's how I DO IT

I get the theory of half wrap and whole wrap...

but the end realism is ----------------------------------- the amount of wire you use

if you have 2 inches of wire it will be x.xx Ω's
don't matter if its 10 times around a toothpick or 3 wraps around a pencil - it's still 2 inches of wire...

and that's the Law :D

I generally run an odd number of wraps (no idea why, don't ask)
same wire, same ID - just add or remove a wrap to get where I wanna be

when I go out to eat, 90% of the time I think "what do I want" before I look over the menu
then search for what I WANT, not what they got...

I agree, it's not how many wraps you use, it's the length of wire you use. Just easier to call wraps.
To know the length of wire I use, I'd have to measure the length of wire I cut off after installing the coil, then subtract that from the length of wire I started with.

All you STM folks: I'm having a weird problem. Got my subox mini kit in today, and the tank is soaking after a good cleaning. Meanwhile, I want to rebuild, or at least wick, the rebuildable coil. Problem is, I cannot, no matter what I try, get that tiny little screw out of the side to take it apart. I can only think they somehow got it in there crooked. Won't budge. Any ideas. If I ever get it out, I might just leave it out. Saw a guy rebuilding them on YouTube, and he just never put the screw back in afterwards. Just made sure he had the cover lined up properly.

ETA: Got it. Once I realized I had extra screws, I went into destructo mode. The head protruded just enough for me to grab and and twist and pull on it with some wire cutters. That dislodged it from whatever was hanging it up, and I got it out.
