I have a question as to using ss coils for temp control. Should the coils be spaced?

you can make the coils ANYWAY you like - BUT - I hear 'touching' coils can cause more trouble for TC to read ??:unsure::unsure::unsure:
I don't know, because I only use 'spaced' coils (what I prefer)

:)

Those Nickle coils are not CLRs. They are CLs. CLRs do not come with the tanks or kits. AFAIK CLRs must be ordered seperately.

This must be the source of my confusion. I thought there were NI and TI CLR coils. Then, can you use temp control with the Ego One CLR coils if the stock coil has been replaced with an SS wick?

You mean I have to learn something else new? I've never spaced my coils.

Yes, I think. So when you are using your EGO One tank and want to do temp control,
you use any one of the CLR coils (kanthal, Ni or Ti), but first you build and install a coil made of SS in the CLR coil?

LOL,you are confusing me. You can't use kanthal for temp control. CLR coils only come in kanthal and Ti. You have to re-coil to use ss.

YES, that is why I wrote that all out
JustWondering1 is kinda asking the question wrong

    JustWondering1 Re-Read my post
    CLR only Ti or K
    K doesn't do TC
so ultimately you have to build inside a CLR body with the wire of choice (mine being SS)

    LOL

I apologize, Fran. I'm not doing a good job of communicating. Can I take a CLR coil, remove the original kanthal wire. build and install a new SS coil and use temp control?

I think I got it now. That's exactly what I've been trying to say, but couldn't manage to say it coherently.

I am late to the game (BUUUUUUSSSSYYYY WEEK), but I'll chime in on the contact vs spaced coil question...

Spaced coils work better because the coils heat and cool at the same rate. Contact coils - because they're in contact, natch - tend to hold heat longer, and so cool slower where contact is made.

That heat retention is a good thing when you're wanting to reduce ramp up on subsequent pulls, though...

I use, almost exclusively, spaced coils in ANY regulated device, and contact coils in mechanical devices.
