Hey

I've been running off one of those cheap e-lite ecigs that screw together. From my understanding this isn't optimal. After abit of googling I found the eGO was highly reccomended. But there seem to be afew different versions etc and I am still very new to this.

Does this look okay?:

Ego/Riva Starter Kit XL - Detailed item view - FreedomVape (UK)

And am I correct in saying the atomiser is a coil that heats up the cartridge to create the vapour? E.g my current e-lite uses cartomisers (which are expensive?) and better models such as above use atomisers and cartidges?

That kit is fine, except you should pick up a few different juice delivery devices to try out just in case those atomizer-cartridge things don't work out for you. Those are rather "old news" and rarely used anymore except for cheap starter kits.

Every juice delivery device has one or two heating elements within it. How the heating elements have the e-liquid delivered to them and how the juice is carried is what is different. They all perform a little differently, and eveyone seems to have strong preferences on which one works best for them. What one person likes, another would not. Having multiple options is a good thing, but can be confusing to a new person getting into the hobby.

I created a picture dictionary that shows images and a brief description on the more common juice delivery devices in this link:

An alternative setup can be found in the below link. It includes two variable voltage batteries, which for a little more money than the single volt equivalents, can prolong the usefulness of your first setup, and improve your vaping experience even as a beginner. The juice delivery devices in my recommendation are more up-to-date for improved performance.

I have no affiliation with the vendors linked to, and I could care less if you purchased from them. It is shown to you to get an idea on what to get for your first setup in gear and make it more likely that you can give up smoking.

The atomizer/cartridge combo is very old school. Cartomizers are much better. But, if you're buying pre-filled cartos they will be expensive. You can probably refill your cartos, though I'm not familiar with your e-cig. Personally I think you'd be better off getting something like the eGo Twist and either a Vivi Nova or Kanger T3. Or, something like these kits. Get 5 more posts and you can post in the UK sub-forum to get better info on what's readily available in your area for a good price.

Ok so just to clarify my understanding:

A cartomiser has a small(ish) capacity and will need to be topped up regularly.

The tank daven mentioned is something the cartomiser is put INTO to automatically top it up?

So if I were to order the thing I originally posted, it would also be advisable to buy additional liquid and a tank (which I would insert the cartomisers from the kit into?)

Pretty cool how quick + detailed replies are, great community here :D

@Baditude

Based off your what kit to start with post, if I were to buy each of the following objects would I have all I need to begin vaping:

2x AltSmoke.com | Personal Vaporizers | Electronic Cigarette | Ecigs | AltSmoke.com | eGo-C Twist Battery

Kanger MT3 Rebuildable Clearomizer - Black (would I need multiples of these? if I just have one why wouldn't I just be able to repeatedly refill it?)

3-Pack e-Liquid Sampler | Virgin Vapor | Electronic Cigarette Organic e-Liquid | Electronic Cigarettes

Edit: And I guess a charging cable for the batteries

Actually a Kanger T3 is a clearomizer. You just unscrew the bottom (head), fill, screw the head back on and vape. A carto tank is a bit more complicated, but the learning curve isn't bad.

Ah so a clearomiser is like carto tank but smaller capacity / easier to use? Would this work with the other components I listed? Sorry for all the questions haha

That would get you going battery wise for the next several months. The T3 clearomizer may last you 3-4 weeks of steady use at which time the atomizer may die out. I believe that the atomizer heads in that are rebuildable, which merely means that replacement heads are available for purchase from the vendor.

I would recommend getting 2-3 clearomizers, then you have backups or you can put different flavors in each one and change out between them on your battery in use, and thereby prolonging their usefulness.

I don't recall how much total juice the samplers provide, but figure on using 3-5 ml of juice a day (90 ml a month ?).

Yes the T3 is made for eGo batteries. Like Baditude said, get 2-3 of them. YOu can run different flavors at the same time, and if one dies you still have more.

To reiterate what you want...

2 eGo Twists
2-3 Kanger T3
1 charger (though having killed a couple, I'd recomend 2)
lots of juice. Like Baditude suggested get lots of samplers until you find what you like.

A cartotank and clearomizer work in different ways, but the bottom line is yes they both hold a larger amount of juice.

A clearomizer uses string wicks to draw the liquid to the atomizer.

A cartotank is more complex. The carto holds a polyfill which attracts the liquid. Within the carto is also the atomizer. Holes are present on the metal of the cartomizer to allow juice from the tank to enter. A carto tank can hold a significantly larger amount of juice than a a common clearomizer and can last 1-2 days without needing a juice refill.

I would add 2 Kanger T3 atomizer replacement heads... only 3-4 dollars each (US), just so you have a couple of replacements as backup.
Also my view- I have not found a 'bacco' ejuice that tastes like a burning ciggy, most taste nasty to me now- prefer other flavors.

Drink lots of water and Vape On !
