My first post here where I hope I can help those in the UK.
SimpleCJ's eGo-T Wick Mod

The chap in the link above has made wick replacement for the Ego and Tornado tanks a walk in the park. I take my hat off to him.

The special pyramid tea bag material is just NOT available in UK shops. But I have found a London based source on eBay. The India Tea Company import these bags and here is a link:
Lipton Russian Earl Grey Tea Bags 4 Boxes IMPORTED | eBay UK
You can clearly see a picture of the teabag on the box.

The other 'difficult' item is the silica (glass fibre) wick. Once again I have found a UK source for the 3/8 inch round woven glass fibre wick material. It is £4.50 including postage for a 50cm length which will last the rest of your life. Here is the link:
Oil Lamp and Heater Wicks

This simple mod has transformed my vaping experience. With this, and good atty maintenance, the atty's will just go on and on at full performance.

Thank you Knobbysmoo. You can buy almost anything in USA, but across the pond we have to do a lot of searching for little mod materials like teabags and wicks. I use VG diluted with 25% gin for mixing flavours with 54mg Platinum Ice flavourless nicotine liquid from TW. Started vaping last December after 54 years of heavy smoking. I haven't smoked an analogue since (and have no more desire to) and feel great! I'll be glad when I have enough posts to be allowed in the 'grown-up' forums. Happy vaping!

Hi TroopX. I've never used anything else but VG in my Tornado-T. Even with the Platinum Ice I order the VG version over the PG. VG gives me more vapor and I think is more pure. It is the 25% gin (or vodka) added to the VG that gives me just the right thickness (or thinness) for the tank. The DIY wicks are super and with the needle plate removal tool I can see the coil when dry burning. This is turning into a right old hobby! Off to bed now - big time difference.

Use the link in my post to SimpleCG's mod for photos of his wick plate removal tool.

I made mine from a small screwdriver. I simply made the tip red hot and quickly made a tiny right angle bend with pliers before plunging in cold water to re-harden the steel. Then a couple of minutes with a file to get the shape. Job done. It hooks under the needle plate and one pull on one side and out it pops easily every time. Do look at SimpleCG's mod and the continuing posts. I now know the Ego/Tornado tank inside out and can keep it in tip top working condition.

I still can't figure out how to get the needle plate off.

I used a large (not novelty sized) safety pin. I bent the end with a pair of needle nosed pliers. If you look in the atomizer, you'll see flats on each side of that plate. Hook under one of the flats and pull. It'll pop off. It might go flying. So watch it. To go back in, use needle nosed pliers to get it positioned and try to press evenly on both sides. It snaps in.

Someone posted to just set the plate pin into the already pierced hole on top of an empty tank, hold the tank with the plate facing up, while holding the atty battery end up, then slide the whole thing back up into the barrel, and push til it pops in...that's the easiest way I've tried to get them back in place...

The quick and easy way to get the plate back in is to put the wick tube in the hole of an empty tank cartridge. Slide the plate and tank in the atty as far as it will go, then push the top of the mouthpiece down firmly all the way. You will feel a snap as the plate engages.

Avoid using needle nose pliers. It can ruin or distort the wick tube causing leaks.

Wrapping the PTB around the wick was driving me nuts - I just haven't got the knack! But I've made something that wraps the PTB round the wick perfectly and quickly every time.

I took a 1" blunt syringe needle (it must be 17 gauge with white coded plastic tip). Carefully chop away the plastic tip with a sharp stanley knife. This leaves you with a tiny metal tube (the answer to my prayers).

Double a length of sewing cotton and thread the two ends through the tube leaving a small loop at the other end of the tube. Place about 2" length of single strand wick on the loop with the loop near the end of the wick.

Then simply pull the other end of the cotton to pull the wick through the tube. Adjust to have same amount of wick sticking out of each end of the tube. Roll the PTB around the tube. With one hand grip the PTB and wick while pulling off the tube with the other.

This leaves you just holding the perfecly wrapped PTB and wick. Just fold as in SimpleCJ's method and use the cotton again in a loop to pull the new wick through the wick plate. Trim in the usual way.

This is all so easy and I've got re-wicking down to 2 minutes. Hope this helps some of you. Best wishes from London UK.
