I just recently came across some old ( about 12 months old but never used ) ego twist batteries that I had stored away for a rainy day.. they are black color which I know are powder coated as I have seen some in a terrible mess if juice is not cleaned off them. Each battery had a coating of some sort of gunky type scum that you could scrape off with your finger nail.. I do reside in Cambodia which is a very humid and hot environment. The scum is on the exterior and when scraped off it doesn't actually scrape off the black powder coat just this gooey type sticky scum. Have tried to clean them but seems near impossible. It's no big deal really but just wondering if anyone has some imput about this. They were in perfect condition when purchased so just wondering how\why this occurs...I have seen this before with some white regular pen style evod batteries also.

Welcome and glad you joined. Could be some type of anti oxidation coating.
Could try to clean with a little Isopropyl alcohol and see if the condition is helped.

You're ego battery scum, as mentioned already is most likely the rubber coating breaking down in that tropical climate-think about what happens to rubber bands stored in the heat of the tropics-they just turn into goo gooo doo doo !! If you find the battery's work just fine, scrape them off and refinish to your own preference or color
