Hi All - I'm about as newbie as it gets. Glad to be here, and please forgive me if the following questions have already been answered a few hundred times (gotta learn the language to learn how to Search).

A dear friend just set me up with some really nice, slightly used equipment. It worked great, but, ever creative, within days of taking possession I found a way to destroy the eGo-C Twist battery (and I DO know the language appropriate for THAT!). Found a non-joyetech replacement locally, but I'd like to get a genuine replacement. Snooping around eBay I've found some good deals, but I'm suspicious that some of what're identified as "eGo-C Twist" batteries are, in fact, knock offs. If it says "eGo-C Twist", is it joyetech, or should I avoid anything that isn't clearly identified as Joyetech?

Also, some of what I've seen comes with a charger, which I already have (my friend is a seriously nice guy). Do I need a spare charger?

Thanks, and I look forward to asking many annoyingly shallow, redundant questions in the future.

Welcome Arizuno!
I'm sure others will be along soon. Joyetech branded items have their logo - usually on the bottom or the button. I have 3 batteries I picked up at a local store that are not branded - so technically are knockoffs - and they're still working great. I think it's hit or miss with anything electronic, so best to pick reputable vendors that will make things right if you get a dud.
And, as you'll read elsewhere, always have backups - so yes get another charger.
Kudos to your friend! And good luck to you :)

I can think of a lot bigger problems that whether my first Twist is a knockoff or not, a battery that you may not use ever again after a few months of vaping. For example, how about the difficulty of finding a good juice, the right nic, the best ratio of PG/VG for you, etc. Battery life, delivery device (way more to do with vaping experience than battery, along with juice), etc. If something is a good deal and says Ego-C Twist, it is probably ok to buy as long as it's more than $10 and less than $30. Alsok, recommend you get the biggest mAh in the battery as you can, because re-charging can be a PITA. Also, get some good evods or a protank and some good juice. without them, the battery won't much matter anyway. I say, go for it. Throw caution to the wind and dive in with both feet. Alternatively, buy a couple of iTaste 3.0's, that you'll still be using a year from now and thank me in a couple of months. They're about $10 more per battery, and worth about $30 more per battery, imho. Try Ivape:

http://ivape.net/index.php/iTaste-VV-3.0-Variable-Wattage-Device-White.html?pop=0

These are the gold standard of stick batteries and slightly shorter than Twists, but include the features of a full APV like Ohm meter, variable power, variable watts, puff counter, +/- buttons, pass through USB charging, etc. Much better imho. Good luck and happy shopping. The Ivape's are on sale at 30% off too. Use coupon code "itastevv." Best to you!

Welcome to the forum and to the world of vaping. :vapor:

I have 2 Smoktech 1300 winders (which is basically the same thing as the Ego twist) that I've been very happy with. My first "kit" came with 2 900mah knock offs and one died in short order.

I would check out the forum suppliers (click the button at the top of this page) to see what deals they have on either the Ego or Smoktech brands. I've bought several things from Discount Vapors and have been very happy with the price and also the exceptional the service.

Also, wouldn't be a bad idea to have a backup charger. As they say around here, get backups for your backups.

Hey there Arizuno,
Welcome,
:2c:
If locally is a Brick and Mortar store, go with them. Most of the "knock offs" from the B&M's are warrantied for 30+ days, no questions asked.
Should not need a new charger for similar type batteries.
Joytech will have their logo etched on the bottom of the battery.
And I have found so far that nothing asked here is "annoyingly shallow, redundant questions".
All here are more than willing to "pay it forward".

Ditto to MichieA's post

Ditto to Bill's Magic Vapor's post, too much wisdom from Middle Earth there......

Your dear friend is happy to have set you up and is even happier that you trusted him enough to take the leap of faith and join this amazing, growing community of ex-tobacco prisoners. We've all been the newbie and we all got help from someone else who took that leap before us. So as RedNBlack stated...."All here are more than willing to pay it forward." Including myself !! Welcome to the vaping community and the ECF :toast:

I'm really new... but can I ask what you did to destroy the battery?? (so I don't do it too!!)

Also... aren't all new products warrantied for 30 days?

i am also quite intrigued how you killed a twist i have had a couple and still got one and the others are still in service with friends. I have done some pretty awful thing to mine.

Generally drop it and it lands on a hard surface the wrong way. Realize also many of the eGo class PVs have wires inside slightly thicker than a hair strand. Also sometimes , while being manufactured, the soldered connection to the pcb is a "cold solder" meaning it wasn't heated to the proper temp and thus a poor connection.
I've re soldered 7 Twists, 4 Kgo and 5 Spinners.

The "Wizard" is wise...go and re-read his post...at least twice! IMHO there is no better eGo-sized battery than the iTaste 3.0. For a few bucks more you will have a better vaping solution.

If you are going to go for an eGo twist type battery, any of the decent quality brands will do equally well. There is nothing magic about a Joyetech twist, just avoid the bargain-basement vv eGo batts. You could end up with a good one, but you are putting the odds against it.

The only time that I might recommend a bargain-basement battery is for someone who already has a few batts and just wants a couple of back ups.

As said before: The battery is important, but not more so than having a decent cleaomizer...and several of those as well as an ejuice that really "works" for you.

Oh, crap! I gotta learn to follow my own threads. Sorry, sorry, sorry.

I destroyed the Twist by leaving the tank installed, placing the whole thing in the cargo pocket of my shorts, and then, I guess, sitting down. Managed to leverage the end right out of the battery. Did so in the presence of donor Dino T. (see above), spent the next half hour restraining my vocabulary. I now carry the (disassembled) components in an old hard body sunglass case I had lying around. BTW, Dino T. responded by dashing out to the car and getting ANOTHER battery for me which, remarkably, is still alive and well. He's a considerably nicer guy than I am.

The batteries are just press fit so if you just popped the top off and pulled a wire or something, your old one might be salvagable. I personally like the Smoktech spinner I picked up. I like the wider / shorter profile vs the longer skinny twists (do have a 900mah twist which is exactly the same length). It's nice to be able to see the numbers and mark at the bottom. I can't read a twist and while I do just turn to taste it's nice to have a point of reference and also be able to tell when and how much I'm turning it.

Thanks, NiNI. If you're talking about Jvapes on Iron Spring, I've been there several times. Great shop, nice people, LOTS of juices which they encourage you to try to your heart's content. They make their own juices on-premises, and the last time I was there mixed a jug for me while I waited. On a previous visit they gave me a replacement for the drip tip o-ring I'd lost. Definitely worth the trip for you.

Hi glassgal. Sorry I didn't respond sooner. When I finally did, a little while ago, the quote function wasn't working. Anyway, my answer can be found somewhere in this thread...
