Does anyone know if you can plug the usb charger that comes with the ego into a different usb power supply other than the one that comes with the ego. Power supply that comes with ego specs are model joye510-306-pcc input 100-240V 50/60 Hz 100mA output 5.0V 500mA. Spec for usb charger input DC 5V 500mA output 4.2V 420mA.

Not sure of the just what the computer voltage mA actual output is. Also have a car adapter with usb slot spec input 12/24Vdc output 5Vdc 750mA. I don't want to fry the usb charger but have another usb charger for a different battery that does not list a mA rating for the input.

Will the higher mA avail for the ego usb charger cause problems or should I only plug it into a 500mA source?

The USB and other chargers monitor the voltage and supply current up to the level drawn by the device. An Ego AC/USB charger (the one that plugs into the wall and has a USB cord that can be used with the charger or on a computer) draws 100ma at 115vac and supplies up to 500ma at 5vdc out to the USB charger which draws 420ma from the Ecig load.

Current draw on a given resistive load is inversely proportional to the voltage source. A higher voltage requires less amperage to produce a given output in watts. That's geek talk for P=E*I where (P)ower (watts) is a product of (E)volts times (I)amperes. If the voltage goes down, the amperage must go up to maintain the same power in watts.

Your laptop or desktop computer is theoretically limited limited to 500ma at 5VDC. If you draw more than that, the port will shutdown until you power off and back on to reset it. That's the design spec, but whether or not your manufacturer adhered to the spec is another question. Front ports on a desktop PC sometimes are limited to a lower mah spec. I've run into things like a USB that acted erratically on the front ports but worked fine plugged into the rear ports.

The 750ma USB car charger could present too much amperage and shorten the life of your battery unless the battery has a circuit that limits in-rush current. I don't think the batts are that sophisticated. I'm not sure whether the USB cord from the wall charger will control the current if you plug it into the 750ma car charger.

The suppliers all tell you that a standard 510 charger (180mah) with a screw on battery adapter can charge an EGO battery but it might take 4 or 5 hours to charge. OTOH, you can't use the EGO charger to charge a 510 battery because the EGO charger (500ma) will charge the 510 batt too fast and burn it up. That happens because the resistance presented by the battery determines the amps it will draw from the charger. The 510 batt is not matched to the higher output of the EGO charger.

I'd look for a 500ma USB charger for the car.
