eGrip, too 'powerful' or did I get a lemon?

I've just switched from Eroll to Egrip and my first experience was similar to yours. Since my rba egrip (imo best choice with egrip) is still not here, i ve used the original atomiser. First, the original atomiser lost its flavor and i kept getting burnt taste time to time. Then i tried the Aspire BVC atomiser trick but that coil have a different top casing so it dont have silicone seal and its side wicking material is too thin, causing lots of juice going in and i ended up gurgling/juice in the air hole.

In the end i ve decided to disassemble both and check what can be done and i ve found out that its possible to merge both to make a better atomiser for egrip.

I will make a tutorial post later probably, but for now i can explain what i did;

1. Disassemble CS and Aspire BVC atomiser gently,
2. The parts we will use to build the atomiser are;
* top cap of CS coil
* wicking material around CS coil
* coil and cotton from BVC coil
* bottom part of CS coil
* bottom silicone and pin from CS coil

So in short, we are removing the coil and cotton from BVC and installing it into CS. This way we end up with an atomiser that give nice flavor and looks like it lasts longer too, i am using it for 1 week now and still no burnt taste as long as i am not going above 14 watt (assuming that its around 14, since dial dont have numbers). The reason for this should be the wicking material around the coil, BVC one is too thin and CS one is too thick to give enough flow. The vertical coil from BVC is way better than original CS coil design but probably still the best option for egrip is the rba atomiser.

I know I should get the RBA base and keep at it or even buy another one in case mine is faulty.
I doubt very seriously you need to buy another eGrip. Just get an RBA base and some pre-made spare coils and give it a shot. You know this would be cheaper (and better for you) than analogs :)

And with reading flbutterfly1's advisement that Halo liquids are thin (PG then, right?), it would seem to remove that from the equation.

Have patience - we're here for you.

Awesome 1st post bloodyrune, I'm honored you used it to try to help me. Your explanation actually made sense to an inexperienced newbie like me and I bet it'll be appreciated by a lot of others, too. I work well with debits & credits and dollars & cents. But probably not with the intricacies of atomizers. I'm afraid I have neither the manual dexterity nor eyesight (or patience) to skillfully handle bits & pieces like you do.

I think I'm going to step back and step away from this unit for a little while longer. I'd about decided to downshift and try a Halo Triton next, but after a little research I've just ordered the Aspire Premium Kit. It's only a 1000 mah CF VV+ battery but it comes with the Nautilus Mini. I'll probably bomb with this setup, too, but at least I'll wind up with a decent topper. I thought about getting an iStick 30W as well and probably will after its had a couple of months on the market. If I don't gift it or pay-it-forward here, I feel sure that I'll eventually give the eGrip another shot. Maybe by then, a 1.5 ohm coil or a meager 8 watts won't be "too much" for me anymore.

Thank you so much, MrSparkle, for the well-written and thoughtful posts! I can't believe total strangers are taking this much time to offer encouragement and advice. I'm sorry I won't be attempting the RBA base with its ready-made coils. At least not yet. I feel sure you're right and it'd be the very best thing for me to try. Several others have said the same thing. But somehow I just can't bring myself to do that because I'm so worried about it not working with my particular unit and only adding another failure on top of the original issue.

So as I mentioned a post or two back, I thought I'd go in a completely different direction with the e-cig adventure. I'll probably be back for help with that, too!

Thanks again to all of you. I wish you Peace & Purrs

Sorry to hear you're having troubles with your eGRIP. I've had mine for almost 2 weeks now and its been working great from the day i took it out of the package. Havent had to put a new coil in it yet either. Im not going to pretend I'm the most knowledable about it though. I pretty much opened the air screw all the way just enough so its not gonna fall out for what ever reason. One of my liquids I found out that the higher wattage I turned up, the more flavor i received. Im using liquids by mister - e - liquid in my egrip and just honestly haven't had any complaints. Could it possibly be the liquid? Whats the VG pg? Sorry if you posted that info at some point. Nice easy draws mouth to lung hits work good for me. To hard of hits would probably taste burnt or something at a low setting. I hope you don't give up on it, because it really does have potential in my opinion. Good luck to you.

You gotta do what's right by you. If the eGrip is giving you a hard time, by all means don't force the issue. Park it in a drawer and it'll wait patiently for you. Baby steps with another device will give you the experience you need.

Good luck, and do what you gotta to keep off the analogs :)

Too hot for me also.

Although it is the *trend*, there are plenty of vapers who vape low watts.

I think my normal is only about 6 watts. That would be like 2.2ohm delivery device @3.75 voltage. :)

Yes, that would probably be Halo Triton speed, or some other old school stuff. :lol:

I can't take a lot of vapor going down my windpipe, and I don't like it hot or even very warm. You have to find your own sweet spot sometimes and not go with the latest-greatest.

Best of luck to ya.

The eGrip is a hot little item, gorgeous and small.......but I kinda knew it wouldn't be good for me given my above stated vaping style. I carry 3 eCabs around nowadays and a non-twist ego battery, and of course, always have my eRolls at hand and a mini REO. I've tried to graduate over 2 years of vaping, but I just tried and can't. :)

I just like a very gentle vape, I guess i just need something to do w/my hands and a little vapor to blow around. :lol: Everything higher than that feels like an "assault" on my throat/lungs. Actually, the eroll when it has a new atty actually hits pretty durn hard for some of us.

Just happened to browse by from work and have to make this really quick....

Racehorse, I'm not sure what your title of "PV Master" stands for -- but you just masterfully stated exactly what I needed to read and described exactly the type of vaping experience I'm looking for. Gentle & calm, not necessarily something hot & nasty that I just have to get used to. I can't thank you enough for giving me this smile. And a sigh of relief from seeing so many posts stressing that only the latest & greatest is truly satisfying while everything else turns out to be a waste of time and money until the good stuff is found.

I'm guessing that old school stuff and old school speeds will be just peachy for me. I'll try to be back with more later. THANK YOU!!!

I too had issues with the stock coils in the eGrip. With my daily vape juice they tasted slightly burnt on the lowest wattage setting. I bought and installed the RBA base and it made a world of difference. I also think the pre-wound RBA coils will last longer than the stock coils. For the ultimate, you can rebuild your own but that's a topic for another day.

The issue that I've had with (2) eGrips now, is that the Fill Door latch tab seems to just wear out. My first eGrip lasted a week before the latch wouldn't stay closed. My local retailer replaced it under warranty for me and the same thing happened again in 2 weeks. I've been very careful with it too. I've emailed Joyetech to see if they will replace it or if they have any other reports of it. I don't see anything in a Google search on it so it doesn't seem widespread. I just don't understand why it's happened to me twice.

Perhaps just fill from the bottom? I have been doing that with the Egrip for the last month with no issues.
