Could you please point me to an "ejuice 101" post or thread, or give me your takes on the questions below?
I've been looking around in other sub-forums, but couldn't find anything that answers the most basic questions such as ...

- What nicotine strength should I go for (if I smoke x cigs/day with y nicotine content)?
- What are the effects of different ratios of PG/VG balance?
- What flavors come closest to X brand of tobacco?
- What quantity should I get, and how long can I store it if (not) using a freezer?
- What are indicators of high/low juice quality, and which vendors have a good reputation?

I realize that a lot depends on people's individual taste, but any general advice would be appreciated.

It really varies because some people enjoy chain vaping and others may just pick it up for a few vapes then put it down. But as a general i would say 18-24mg for full flavored and 12-18 for lights higher if you smoke a lot like 2 pad lower if you smoke less like 1/2 pad or so.

- What are the effects of different ratios of PG/VG balance?
More pg = more throat hit
More vg = more vapor

There really aren't any that taste like cigs. But going for the ones named after the real thing may get you close. But you shouldn't limit yourself. I was a Marlboro smoker but liked camel, 555, and ry4 best when i started. I'd say read the description and reviews to get an idea what each flavor tastes like.

If kept in a dark place at room temp i thinks it's up to 2 years. As far as how much it depends on how much you vape. It can be anywhere from 1-10 ml a day but most ave 3-5.

It's really subject to taste. A lot of people like dekang but it tastes nasty to me. I personally like myfreedomsmokes best. For quality I've never had any that were not good quality just not good taste so i couldn't say much there but I'd look at clarity. Foggy looking or black juice is usually a sign its old.

There's no way to pinpoint this. There's just too many variables.
Most heavy smokers start with 18 mg/ml some even 24mg/ml
lighter smokers might find 18mg to strong and do better with 12mg or less

- What are the effects of different ratios of PG/VG balance?
generally speaking,
VG = more visible vapor that dissipates slower, smoother, muted flavors
PG = more "throat hit", less visible vapor, carries flavors better

- What flavors come closest to X brand of tobacco?
According to most, none. Opinions vary greatly
Personally, I find most taste too caramel. I make my own and my favorite is (TFA) Tobacco with just a hint of Captain black or other strong flavor like 555 for a slight aftertaste that's a little unpleasant. (like cigarettes) . I find it really helps with coffee or after meals

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...milliliters-e-liquid-do-you-vape-per-day.html
3-4 ml a day seems to be about average.
I wouldn't worry about freezing, that's more for long term storage of Concentrated nic liquid for DIY'ers. Just keep it in a dark, cool place

- What are indicators of high/low juice quality, and which vendors have a good reputation?
Unfamiliar territory for me, and I think it's highly subjective. Mt Baker seems to be one of the most recommended.

I realize that a lot depends on people's individual taste, but any general advice would be appreciated.

Some of your questions are just personal preference. Most of us had to use the "trial & error" method to answer these questions.

On nic level for a "new" vapor, it's usually better to start higher vs lower. You can reduce the nic level of an eliquid but you can't make it higher. I recommend starting out at 18mg - 24mg and then adjusting up or down. Nic is what provides most of the throat hit that simulates the "inhaled feel" of an analog. If you have a flavor you know you like, then get some in 24 or 18mg and some in say 6mg. You can then mix the two to whatever level works for you.

PG allows more of the throat hit from nicotine to come through and VG mutes it to a degree. VG is thicker and harder on the lungs but produces more visible vapor. A few people are allergic to one or the other.

Most eliquid has a 2 year shelf life but it is best to keep it away from light, heat and air.

No eliquid truely matches an analog. I have found that Hangsen's Smooth (Silky) Tobacco flavor is somewhat closer to a Marlboro light:

Silky Hangsen e-cigarette e-liquid

Hope some of this helps.

- What nicotine strength should I go for (if I smoke x cigs/day with y nicotine content)? Varies from person to person, I would say anyone that smokes a pack a day will probably start somewhere between 24 mg and 18 mg. That's where I started, I'm at 6 mg now, I can't imagine vaping anything over 12 mg now. I over did it a couple of times, and it was not fun.

- What are the effects of different ratios of PG/VG balance? Also depends on the person. I vape 70% pg/30% vg because that is what I found worked the best in my tanks. Some people have adverse reactions to PG, so they go all VG.

- What flavors come closest to X brand of tobacco? I have never found a tobacco vape that even comes close to an actual cigarette. Most people on ECF will agree that it won't happen because part of the flavor of a cigarette is from the actual burning of the tobacco.

- What quantity should I get, and how long can I store it if (not) using a freezer? I buy 120 ml at a time, and go through that in a month. Most e-liquid has a shelf life of 12 months, though I have vaped some juice as old as 16 months. I wouldn't do it all the time though.

- What are indicators of high/low juice quality, and which vendors have a good reputation? I would check out the general e-liquid review section for that answer. You should be able to find some ideas of what people are talking about in terms of reputation there.
