A lot of the flavorings contain natural extracts which tend to be naturally colored. Fine for eating, maybe not for vaping. I think the natural extracts tend to gunk coils more than artificial flavors. I don't think the artificial colorings do as much to gunk coils, but I don't want them or need them. I do know that clear liquids, excepting sweeteners, tend to cause fewer problems for me.

Agreed. I myself mix almost entirely with FlavourArt. The flavorings in their vaping line have no added coloring. If there is a tint to the liquid, it is from natural extraction. A great benefit to using FA is the flavorings are super concentrated so you don't need near as much as other brands. I generally mix a total of 3-8% flavoring maximum. This has the added benefit of leaving my finished liquids crystal clear or with a very slight tint. I don't use sweeteners, grain alcohol or distilled water. All combined, this provides e-liquid that is very kind to coils and wicks.

FlavorArt, at least the selection I've seen at MFS, seems to be all tobacco flavors. They have one flavor that intrigues me, MTS Vape Wizard, that seems to be a sort of vape umami. I plan trying some with my next DYI order.

Yeah. MFS doesn't carry much of the FA line. FlavourArt's fruits are, by and large, the best I've ever tasted; real, fresh, not candyish at all. Their vanillas are excellent too. Creams and custards are good considering they contain none of the recognized diketones that concern vapers. eliquidmart sells FlavourArt in 5ml bottles (for $1.79, tobaccos are $2.69) all the way up to 250ml. bullcityvapor sells FA (and most other companies as well) in factory bottles. purevapes sells only FA. rtsvapes sells some. wizardlabs sells a bunch. onestopdiyshop also sells some but only in 30ml. eliquidmart is my favorite. 5ml lasts a long time except for heavily used flavorings. But they sell 12ml bottles for $2.99.

Have fun!

Thanks for the info. I clearly had the wrong impression of Flavor Art based on what MFS offered. I've been pretty satisfied with their TFA fruit flavors, but I can clearly do better price wise and hopefully quality as well. I recently bought some Mt Baker flavors. They seem inexpensive, but they are very weak. It does simplify my mixing, I measure my nic base into a 50ml bottle, dump a 15ml bottle of Mt Baker flavor, top with VG. Not really inexpensive after all.

Meanwhile, I've been fiddling with the GS caps. I haven't had any failures, but I've come to the conclusion that JB Weld rules. JB Kwik is good for doing up to five caps, but I'm going to use the regular JB Weld on the twenty coming on the slow boat from China. I've done a dozen so far.

I sold Airs with a 5 pack of coils to two of my co-workers. They seem to have gotten the idea that I am under contract to continue providing them with coils. I got tired of ordering coils, I told them this is the deal, give me two of your old coils and I'll give you one new one.

One of the best resources for most things FlavourArt is Mama J's. They sell individual flavorings. They also sell premixed recipes ready to add to your nic base. The premixed flavors are EXCELLENT. This takes all guess-work out of mixing. Simply add a little more for stronger flavor or a little less for lighter flavor. Still much cheaper than commercial e-liquid. They also have detailed notes on many of the individual FA flavorings. Definitely worth a look-see.

Mama J's Specialty Flavor Shop

Cheers!

"....real, fresh, not candyish at all." That is one of the other reasons I chose FA for flavourings. I bought mine from eliquidmart as well and had it shipped to my brother in NY. (Canadian pricing is crazy compared to American).

Good luck Crunchie.

So if I might pick the brains of the knowledgeable. On Saturday, I had problems. I had a GS Air M, my very first rebuilt coil (I think that was Tuesday). I had refilled 2 or 3 times, so maybe 8-10 ml total, all the same juice. It is not a known gunker. I had filled the tank and it had been sitting upright for at least an hour before I used it. My iStick 20w was fresh off the charger, but had rested, unused, for a while before this occured.

First drag @9w: gah...tasted like spiderwebs. Or what I guess spiderwebs would taste like. My thought, "Is this what people who don't like rayon mean when they say they can taste it?

Second drag @8.5: tastes burned.

Third drag @ 6w: burned

Fourth drag at 5.3...this isn't getting any better.

So I took the coil apart later. I was out and about when this happened. :( Liner was pristine. Wick was pristine. Two wraps of the coil on the end right next to each other are silver, the rest are blackened.

So am I making some easily identifiable newb coil building mistake, or do I just need more practice? Do the rebuilds not last as long as the factory builds?

To complicate things when I put the M that had the stock coil I had installed Tuesday on the iStick at 5.3, it tasted burned as well. Could it have been the iStick not regulating down?

Thanks.:)

The stock heads are 1.5Ω. What is your rebuilt resistance?
When you disassembled the head, were the liner and wick saturated?
Do you see bubbles rising after every puff or two?

In addition to above there's also Possible hot leg on the coil...burns the grommet and creates the god-awfulest taste!
Pull the bottom grommet out and see if the wire burned the grommet. Unusual for it to happen after a while instead of right away.

I don't know nuffink. Haven't crossed over to the Dark Cheechorian Empire yet, but I thank you for the learning opportunity. Chin up.

PS- Don't take any wooden nickels.:D

PPS- Don't take Cheech's "hot legs" remark personally, unless...

My rebuild resistance was 1.4, single coil. Line and wick were saturated. I didn't check at the time for bubbles, but was getting them when it was fresh. The head in question is all disassembled at this point.

Hmmm... Remember the original iStick (20W), fresh off the charger outputs an effective minimum of 4.1V, so that's 12W with the 1.4Ω head. But that shouldn't be your problem. The stick heads are rated to 20W. Rebuilds are probably good to 30W.

Besides looking for bubbles to rise, informing of juice being fed to the wick, take a look at your wick itself. As opposed to cotton, rayon tends to shrink when it gets wet. I suspect you need a bit more rayon. You're looking for round shoulders at the end of each wick. The rayon should be just loose enough that you don't molest the coil badly. Listen/feel for the squeaking. I have never burnt a rayon wick. I have had really nasty hits resulting from too little wicking. The nasty flavor is any accumulation on the coil burning.

Where do you have the air flow set?

Why the stock had would be doing this is beyond me. Maybe others can help here.

Do the GS Airs tend to "vapor lock" if filled too full, preventing the passing of air to the tank and e-liquid to the wick?

We all have our first world problems to bear. Mine for example is this one GSA tank that "wheezes" every time I hit it. It is so irritating.

Better the atomizer wheezing than you! ;)

ETA: Stop hitting your atomizer. That's abuse...

Mine is that I went to the grocery store earlier and they had stuffed tie-dyed monkeys in the flower section by the door and it made me think of all of you. :) I didn't have my phone or I'd have snapped a pic.
