Bike, that's the reason I want to build a stand under it.
My son came home and we have it up. How long it stays? Who knows?

FWIW- I'm not a man...all these suggestions about screwing into studs, headers etc are things that I don't know how to do. I'm not a carpenter, nor am I rich enough to hire someone. I'm just doing the best I can with what I have to work with. The screws that were in there, screwed to paneling and drywall have been there for 20+ years. We had to remodel the bathroom first thing when we bought this house. Hopefully what I pin up there today will last for a little while.

Oh the grammar. ;)
Well, yes, in a manner of speaking. On the other hand, from the standpoint of the anti-prescriptivists who seem to have ruled the roost in modern linguistics for the last couple of decades, its colloquial register and appropriate to its context. Lynn does code switching really well, and I admire that.;)

You've heard nothing yet until you've heard some of the grammar in Pittsburgh. I weened off of most of it early on, but some of it is truly funny!

Thanks Gran! I'd like to add, I'm in a thread on an Internet forum, not a business English class. I'm posting, not writing grants, books or even filling out a resume. If I were at any of these places doing any of these things, trust me...my grammar would be a lot better!

Those linguistic gurus (Gee You Are YOU! ~ G U R U) I shot at above have invented a term for your colloquial usage: overnegation. Read all about it here: Language Log: Why are negations so easy to fail to miss?

I'm wondering if it was a possible affront against standard or formal register grammar,
or just a lexical transposition. As Elvie-Emm will be happy to tell you, just as soon as she finishes heaving that heavy crystal ashtray at me, I ought to stick to Portuguese and Italian, and leave the grammar to the experts.

An fuddermore, I think she was just funnin on you, Lynn.

Edit: Psssst! Ask her where the verb is in "Oh the grammar", which seems to be missing two punctuation marks if it's exclammatory.

The paneling is probably why it has held up. Just watch your toes.....:)

G, I think you'll enjoy this... This is how we actually speak over here
Pittsburgh English - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia..
Thanks for the wiki, which attributes to Pittsburghese usages common throughout the Englishes of more than one country. E.g., "The yard needs mowed". That usage is ordinary in Nottingham, U.K. dialect, not just western Pennsylvania speech. Lots of Scottish and Irish immigrants came to work in Nottinghamshire, same as in Pittsburgh, so that might account for the similarities.

Ok folks...guess I have ticked off enough folks tonight and I really feel bad about that. :( So, I do apologize to whomever I ticked off tonight! I'll be back tomorrow and in a much better mood than I'm in tonight.

We love and welcome you just the way you are, Lynn. We just don't like seeing you frustrated and upset.
