Well I just hit some Mc Delicious??? I took a pretty good pull and pow pow pop! What?!? Looked at my mod, 8 VOLTS! I had accidently ramped it up to 50 watts wide open. There went that coil. It was a good one too. It won't hit for crap. Very little vape now and it's readin 1.3 instead of 1.6 before. Must have damaged it somehow. I've never had that happen. Usually just a dry hit and burned wick maybe, but the coil is dead now or pretty close to it. :)

 I saw you on the other thread talking about vaping that stuff! Careful with that hot Mickey D's!

Wonder if you didn't pop one of the dual coils?

I guess the HOT Mikky D's did it! It does seem like it went to half power, you could be right. That's why you're the pro:)

SO far he seems to be very honest, thorough and knowledgeable. And not swayed by pressure from a distributor or modder. His reviews do tend to be quite long though. :)

He really is. Phil is the only one I watch regularly. He is thorough, he takes things apart, analyzes the design and performance. Most others, unfortunately, spend the first 5 minutes unboxing the product and the next 15 just sitting and vaping and trying to blow the biggest clouds then can... Waste of time.

I like Todd, too.

Yes. When you watch those videos, you want to get yourself a nice big bowl of popcorn, cuz it's gonna be a while.

Why is it that these coils just keep on going? I really appreciate Cheech's rebuilding stuff - but when do you have to do this? They don't seem to die - which is obviously great! :)

They don't die--but their performance diminishes with every milliliter of juice processed. The gunk accumulates on every coil--that's just a fact of life. Some people are more sensitive to that diminished vape quality than others, but all experience it. Nature of the beast.

Last night I was ready to rebuild my first GS Air coil that had been sitting in a box labeled "to be dealt with later.' :) It had vaporized maybe 15 mls or so, maybe more, I don't remember exactly, but was still doing well. I vape very clean ejuices. So I opened it and it looked very clean inside. I did a quick dry burn and a rinse and it is like new. But there was was a fair amount of smoke generated during the dry burning process, indicating that the gunk was being burnt off.

My wife is still using a 15 month old coil in one of her T3Ss....performs great, it's unbelievable :)

Wonder if you didn't pop one

Oh yeah I popped quite a few this afternoon, (hate to admit this in front of Lady) but I just took possession of my 3rd 5.56 today a S&W M&P just couldn't refuse the deal! Ran 100 rounds through it sweet nowhere near my Daniels Defense but still sweet. :)

Well, if it's reading 1.3Ω it should still be good. On paper.

As coils age, they have a tendency to change resistance--it can go up or down, depending on what's happening with that thin, fragile wire.

If your atty reads a very high resistance (K Ohms, M Ohms.. or infinite Ohms) then it is "open," which means that the coil is broken, which means it's dead.

If it isn't quite "open", or broken, yet, but reads substantially higher resistance than the stock numbers.... it is fixin' to go open--just as bad.

If you are getting very low resistance, less than .5Ω, a short is about to happen or has happened.

0Ω reading indicates a short.

With dual coils, if one coil pops, the resistance of your atty will double. So, with 1.5Ω dual coil atty, 3Ω reading indicates that one coil is dead and the other one is still alive and well.

If they are wired parallel and one opens it will read 3 ohms for sure. This one dropped to 1.3 from a 1.6 reading when it popped and immediately the power dropped. When I open it later I will be able to see what happened but it lost .3 ohms of resistance somehow causin at least a half power loss. :)

Does she dry burn it? Clean it periodically in some manner?

This lady uses her coils for months and likes it. ;)

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...nth-old-nautilus-head-looks.html#post14783893

The only thing she does is fill the tank when it gets to about 1/3. The coil can't be gunkin at all or it would not put out the flavor and cloud production it does. She had another one in another tank that lasted the same up until I put it on a stick20 and burnt the wick by mistake. It had gone 12 months with no flavor loss. It's incredible and I wouldn't believe it if it wasn't right here happening. I think the fact that she only uses Apple Menthol in it, a light clear juice, and nothing else keeps it wickin good too.

They are very much configured in parallel.

Time to rebuild? ;)

My homebrew seems pretty easy on coils to, i'm usually tearin into them more for tinkerin reasons than gunk reasons here. :)

I know all dual coils are parallel in these things. :) Of course if you wanted you could make one in series but that would end up actually bein a single coil with a length of wire between the 2 sections :) Yeah I'm waitin on mail from Cheech to get the wrap material if my last 2 coils hold out long enough.

Coffee filters to the rescue?

You could reuse the existing wrap. It works.
