Oh Susaz, you've done it now. The pack will be here drooling any minute!

Truly, that's how I used to carry my eGo back a couple of years ago, specially when driving. Those pesky T2 used to leak all over the place except when upright.
Let the pack come, I love dogs :)

Are you talking about the new subtank mini with improved AFC? The one that is part of the subox mini starter kit? They JUST released it. It has the openings on both sides just like the M and MS. From the reviews I've seen it should make for an awesome MTL vape.
YES! I signed the preorder I think 3 weeks ago and it arrived last friday. The coils are different, 1.5 ohm BVC (although they call it differently). As long as I know, several vendors are already shipping, I got mine from Gearbest.

What is the difference between the annealed and not?

Well, Temco anneals their kanthal. Most resellers (LV) just rewrap Temco's wire, I believe, so whatever they put on their label is not all that reliable. None of this is simple... Having said that, everybody agrees that Temco makes the best kanthal.

Isn't all Kanthal annealed?? (snip)

Mono, if some kanthal spools comes pre-annealed it's new to me. The annealing process is accomplished by heating the wire to redhot and is used by some microcoilers to take the springyness out of the wire so its easier to wind. Problem is during the annealing process alumina is forming on the wire ( high resistance) and although it works fine for drippers and rbas with screws to secure the wire (screws break thru alumina layer) it can be a game killer for PTs. The grommet compression is often not strong enough to overcome the resistive layer of oxides so you can end up with higher than normal res. That's why I don't recommend annealing before the build. When you pulse your coil it also anneals the wire and forms the oxide layer.

Ps. looked up some posts on kanthal and appears it comes either annealed (even though it's not always annotated) or oxidized. Mac, does this sound right? I dunno.

Officially the position at TEMCO is that their wire is annealed. My direct supplies have been remarkably consistent though and I stopped checking wire lengths quite some time ago. However, as I posted just a bit earlier, TEMCO supplies tendered through eBay (by them, at discount) often reflect weaknesses (thickness variations) which have made it much more prone to breakage with simple hand tension. This suggests off-spec production whatever the cause or preparation.

Other sources and brands have not filled me with an abundance of joy.or confidence. And I was testing wire for some time.

My consideration is that any annealing or force applied to the wire potentially can weaken it or thin it impacting its resistance as you suggest or contaminating it's surface. All these just making the results of oxidizing it for our needs less predictable. So a few pennies more are well spent I believe to ensure good and predictable spec wire.

Surprised somebody hasn't undertaken the QC on this here at ECF. My Fluke and I involuntarily parted company some time ago.

Good luck.

:)

another bonus is Temco accepts PayPal.. just ordered a 50 foot spool of 29g!

I've tried 28 and 30.. let's see how 29 does..

Good luck and let us know how you like it.

FWIW, I've tried different kinds of kanthal and never had a problem. Never had a problem with NiChrome either. But I'm not a metallurgist so I just do as I'm told by those who know more than I do on the subject.

Katya, I'll be conversating with you when I start building my nickel coils for the eVic-VT when it shows up. I'm going to use a SubTank Mini on it with Ni200 coils.

With me??? I'm thrilled! :)

Even though I know nothing about nickel wire, the eVic-VT and/or the SubTank mini. :vapor:

Howdy Air Heads!

 if you had told me back in January, that this would become my life....

Grrr. I've gotta find a better system for getting the tops off these air coils.... They're easier the second time around, yes?

I use an old ego battery as it gives a lot of leverage, don't have any problems removing them in this manner, it's very easy and all about the leverage. I just screw the gs air base to the battery. ;)

That's what I'm doing! But thanks!

I screw mine to an old T3S base and if it's really hard to get off, I hold the T3S base with one pair of pliers and the coil head with another. The top comes right off. I only have to do that with stock coils that I'm rebuilding. Ones I've rebuilt just come right off.

You know how to build nickel coils! That's all that matters!

I do?????

No, sweetie, I have no idea how to build nickel coils and I don't think I even want to learn. I'm even worried about building kanthal coils after the latest brouhaha created by our good Dr. Farsalinos...

If you want information about nickel builds, there is a huge thread on the subject:

BTW, many temperature control people are now experimenting with Ti (titanium) wire. The person I trust the most is Rossum--if you have any questions, follow his postings.
