Queensland Universities Dr Coral Gartner will advocate for increased access to less harmful tobacco in Australia at a major drugs conference next week. Dr Gartner has today said battery powered cigarettes that allow users to inhale nicotine without smoke or tobacco could help those who refuse to quit smoking altogether.
We would rather that no-one use tobacco, but research suggests there is less health risk with these products compared to regular cigarettes. They could be used to help those people who arent going to give up tobacco use, she said.
An alternative tobacco called snus popular in Sweden will also be raised at the conference by Dr Gartner as a way to help people quit smoking.
