when i smoke an analogue, by the time the cig is nearly done, i _want_ to put it down. i don't really chain smoke. is it the same with e-cigs? i know with e-cigs the nicotine takes longer to get into the bloodstream, but besides that are there any other factors?

i watched a youtube vid with someone vaping and after two hits he was out of breath when he spoke - is this common?

I definitely vape a lot more than I smoked which is why I try to get 6mg nicotine level anytime I can. A lot of people will suggest that you start with the highest level of nicotine but I find that low levels work fine for me. I'd actually suggest doing the opposite, even if it means that you slip and have a few analogs in the beginning. Vaping tastes really good so it's easy to want to chain vape, so starting low and only going up in nicotine level if you need to is probably healthier in the long run. No need in getting more addicted to nicotine from loving vaping too much. :) As for the breathing thing...my breathing has improved drastically since making the switch to e-cigarettes. I don't snore as bad, either. :)

re. the breathing, i meant more the short-term immediate effects

Guilty as charged on the chain vaping. There are times when I know to put the PV down. This week, I'm at a customer site, and head to the restroom every few hours. I pull out the PV and do about five back-to-back-to-back drags. By the fifth immediate drag, it gets a bit much, the flavors mute, and I can feel the full nicotine effect.

At home, I chain vape, but it's more like a drag every minute. After an hour (sometimes less - sometimes more) I'll put it down for a little while.

Each person's mileage will vary.

Thats hard to answer as it will vary from person to person. At work, I followed the same vaping routine as I had with analogs. That is, only vaped on breaks and at lunch. Cravings were no more than with cigs.

When not a work, I was pretty much a chain smoker.

Now that I am retired, I am a chain vapor. Sometimes if I get busy on a project, I will forget to vape, but most of the time I have my PV in my hand or in my pocket.

And I don't get out of breath when I vape, I don't think that is common.

My guess would be that the person in the video might have breathing issues because I haven't ever had that happen to me. I don't know if nicotine level has anything to do with that or not. It could also have been a leaking issue. Some models are prone to leaking and getting a little liquid in your mouth which might cause that kind of reaction.

Try vaping tobacco juices or non-sweet juices. When you have the right juices you should feel satisfied after some number of drags. When I started I had this one Peach juice that never said stop - I overnicced myself on it. but I could put down the tobacco flavor that had more throat hit.

And my solution to not vape constantly is to put the ecigs in another room. I have very little willpower. But If I leave the ecigs in another room then I have to get off my .... to go vape, just like I had to with cigarettes. That will keep you from vaping constantly.

And if your ecig does not satisfy your craving, try a better ecig.

I don't think ecigs take longer to get into the bloodstream. There have not been good enough studies. I think there was one study where they didn't measure the blood nicotine until 15 minutes later. BTW Vaporized PG is what hospitals use to deliver inhaled medicine.

What else - ecigs do not have the 4000 chemicals, carcinogens, MAOIs, carbon monoxide, tar that analogs have. Ecigs do not give you a buzz because you are not breathing carbon monoxide etc. Nicotine is a skin irritant and ecigs can be irritating if you use medium to high nic in 100% PG liquid - if you get a sore mouth, tongue, throat, lungs, then try juices with some VG in them.

An ex-smoker of 40 years here to add my $0.02 worth.

As far as breathing goes, I notices I was breathing considerably better by the second week of quitting analogs completely. So no to the berating problems in my experience.

There is one issue that almost stopped me at the start. Most veteran vapers seem to suggest slow 5 second or longer draws to properly vape. I had major problems with this. Analog smoke is a dry smoke, vapor is like a wet smoke. In the beginning if I took a 5 second draw it was like trying to inhale a swimming pool, didn't work worth a darn.

The slow draw is the key, the just start with short draw times until you find your own comfort level. My personal suggestion only.

Good luck and hope to welcome a new convert soon :)

Re Youtube vapers... Many people who start vaping do so because they were diagnosed as early COPD or early emphysema or because they have difficulty breathing. And some people vape a TON and they escalate their nicotine and heat requirements going for the biggest baddest hottest rig they can find. So I would not be surprised, if on a Youtube Video, after taking huge drags of vapor on a bat-sized 3.7v or higher ecig with LR attys, they need some breaths.

My breathing got better. My sinuses cleared up for the first time in a decade. After just a few days of vaping and not smoking I woke up with a clear nose and not coughing. It was amazing. But I also do not let myself overdo vaping. When I started vaping I was determined to not escalate my need for TH or nicotine and I have not.

BTW - Here's a juice review for you. This girl is breathing fine. This review cracks me up. She should be in movies.

That is a drawback with vaping, there is no start and stop point as there is with a cigarette. you don't have to light it up or put it out, so many people chain vape <<<guilty as well. My breathing though is dramatically better than when I was smoking 2 packs a day. I have to make myself put my PNV down, I think it is more the hand to mouth than the craving for nicotine. some habits are hard to break after 40 years of smoking...thank goodness it is with an e-cig and not an analogue or I would be dead by now.

1) I thought my lungs were going to collapse at 3 PAD and a week later it was like my lungs 20 yrs ago
2) I chain vape as well...
3) On the 808ds the battery matters... Dormouse "tricked" me ;0 into getting a manual 'cause he always mentions them and it seems to me to be a different experience... autos=chain smoke for me... manual = long, heavy massive hit which I use for high nic 'treats' which lets me put it down a bit--it's really more like vaping as people discuss vs. chain puffing like on the autos...

I was a light smoker, but I am a very heavy vaper. I have to make myself not chain vape. I enjoy it much more than I did smoking, but I haven't been vaping very long. I don't think I'm doing myself any harm health-wise, and I have no problems breathing. I would like to cut back, so I am going to start ordering juice with less nicotine.

I am a full-time dripper for many reasons, and this is one of them.

The dripping process gives you a starting point and a stopping point.
And it gives you a little ritual like when you used to pull out a pack and light up.

Some people think it's a hassle, but I find it to be both helpful and enjoyable.
Your mileage may vary.

Exactly, that was one of my initial questions- I too "chain vape" at home, whereas I used to go outside to smoke every once in a while. Still don't use at work other than on breaks. I need to learn to put it down at home, it's just too easy. I've only been vaping for a week, I think it's part of the learning curve, and I do love having no smelly smoke or ash trays. And I'm hoping my lungs will thank me! Good luck, welcome!
