In a fit of unbridled customer service, Elektra was kind enough to send me, along with three new (albeit higher resistance) atomizers to replace the one that had separation anxiety in my eGo LCD kit, some free black licorice flavouring so I could compare it to their root beer which I'd said in my review tasted like black licorice. The results had me tongue tied. Or maybe that's the lack of sleep talking. Or trying to.

Thanks for posting the comparison.

Might have to give them a try myself, I am a Licorice fan.

They must have been pretty close in flavor, took you lots of puffs to get anything to compare...heh.

A lot of that was actually me trying to get a bead on just how the alleged root beer had changed. When I first mixed it up it was totally black licorice, but it's developing other notes, and I was trying to figure out what those notes were and whether there was any chance that they were ever going to come through enough to make it actually taste like root beer. My gut says no, but I'll let it steep a week or two more and see then. Alternating between the licorice and purported root beer helped to isolate what was different about the root beer -- well, a little bit anyway, just not enough (yet) to pin it down to anything.

The (real) black licorice was quite nice though. I don't like overbearing licorice flavours so the relatively milder and sweeter taste was quite welcome.

I've heard quite a few people say various Root Beer flavors are off. Minty and/or licorice is a common comparison.

You wouldn't really think root beer is that hard a flavour to do though, would you? I mean there are a fair number of different components that make it up, but you'd think they could at least get the root part of it (sarsaparilla) somewhat close and maybe add just a tiny fraction of black licorice flavour to it. Although for all I know that flavour is in there but amount of the black licorice component just smothers anything else that's in there with it.

Oh lord if you want an authentic root beer flavor I know of a vendor who sells juice that tastes so much like the real thing I can only vape it for short periods of time otherwise I feel too full. Tastes great in an atty but sucks in a carto :(

Feel like sharing which vendor this is? You can pm me if you prefer

I mixed up some Lorann's spearmint, peppermint and wintergreen; threw some in a carto first thing one morning had a hit and my first thought was 'Ok, where the **** did I get Hires rootbeer flavor from?'

As always a good review, at least if I'm bored and have nothing to do :)
I was wondering, do you have a routine to clear your pallet?
I think the wine testers eat crackers.
Quitting analogs has really brought my taste buds back to life but I'm a coffee junkie and if I'm drinking coffee I lose Vape flavour.

Glad you enjoyed it. :)

Normally I'll either drink some water or vape a strong menthol. That's pretty good at clearing out any flavours. :) I tend to rotate flavours throughout the day pretty frequently though -- at any give time I often have 4 PVs with different flavours loaded up on the go, so my palate never really has a chance to get fatigued. If I have a flavour I'm particularly fanatical about though I'll tend to vape the hell out of it constantly. :)
