I'm new to vaping and was wondering if there's anyone on here with emphysema or had pleuradesis surgery as I'm really struggling with vaping as getting severe pains in my chest and was hoping there would be someone here that could say if this goes through time, my surgeon isn't very clued up on vaping but has ruled out any medical reasons for this but the pain is so severe that I'm actually getting put of vaping

Not sure what that surgery involves, so I am hesitant to offer any advice. I know with emphysema, people seem to feel a lot better vaping as opposed to smoking. Wondering if your chest is still tender from surgery and the act of vaping itself aggravates the pain? Wish I had more to offer.

Maybe the mods will move this to health and safety.

Good luck and keep us posted!!!

If that pleurodesis was chemical, then it would explain the pain; kind of surprised the surgeon would not have clued in that avoiding irritants might be a good idea. My opinion is that you should perhaps consider avoiding inhaling anything into your lungs besides air, but if you are determined to try, you might want to reduce nic, try different ratios of PG/VG and maybe even try unflavored. But feeling pain is your body's way of telling you that something is wrong... Good luck!

My first thought was, "if vaping is painful stop". If you're going to smoke instead then I would suggest 100% VG juice & dropping the nic level to 6 or below. I have major lung damage from years of breathing carbon smoke, (welding), painting without a mask & smoking too. PG juice hurts. Also, if you must, make sure your device has adjustable air flow & adjustable power control so you can control the amount of vapor you inhale and the temp of the vapor. Much of vaping and/or vaping equipment is in uncharted territory. Especially in a circumstance like yours but I feel not as bad as cigarettes. However I'm not a Doctor. I will have my wife, Ginny Tx, comment when she gets up shortly, Ginny is a RN/BSN.

Thanks for all replies, plurodesis surgery involved using a substance similar to talcum powder to attach my lung to my chest walk after 9 collapsed lungs in 3 weeks, my surgery was 8 years ago so not recent but vaping must be better than 2 PAD , I'm currently vaping 18 and 24 as can't go any lower without going back on the stinkies, I'm not lung inhaling as gathered that wouldn't be advisable

Dang sorry Suzy, we've got a friend from the vape store that's waiting on new lungs, she has it tough, vapes 0mg these days, used vaping to quit of course.
*edit you typed what type while I was typing, same deal though..it makes a "scar".

they've surgically created adhesions between your chest cavity and your lungs(I'm assuming you had the mechanical method of pleurodesis. If your lung capacity is improving I'd think that'd pull on those causing pain or there's less pleural effusion going on ..not sure I'd have to see some tests(this is where you need to have an excellent Pulmonogist and or his nurse that'll shoot from the hip with you and can think out the pathophysiology of it given your volumes/diagnostic criteria, if your lungs are better or worse...so I'd suggest you slap a patch until you can have that kind of meaningful discovery, because pain is our body's way of saying "STOP IT" to us...

Daleron had a good idea, if you can do it, (if you're on an O2 concentrator and it's "squirting" oxygen in ..you'd have to take it off to do that and if you desat rapidly that'd not be good) but the old hold in the mouth and exhale through the nose to get the nicotine and "other" that us old ciggie smokers so crave.

I"m sorry that stinks, I know but you know the old joke "Patient "Doctor doctor, it hurts when I do this" Doctor: "don't do that then", kind of holds, slap a patch and have some frank discussions with your medical folks.

    take care!
