Entry Level Igo-W Experience

This is more of a Story Time relating my experience.

Ok being a relatively new vaper at about 3 months in I decided to explore the rebuildable. I had already been rebuilding coils for my kanger protank II. More specifically a micro coil using 28 kanthal and organic cotton at approximately 1.5ohms. So I get the Igo-W And immediately get to work trying to slap a dual micro coil on it. I get them both on there and tighten them up. But apparently i tighten one side too tight and breaks the other coil...DOH! But nonetheless I just go with a single coil build for the moment. I had read about the tight draw from the minuscule air holes on the Igo-W but really experiencing it was something else. Extreme harshness, little vaper just all around unpleasant to say the least.

Next step. Well I gotta get more airflow. But the smallest drill bit I have is way larger than I've read most people using(I think). Its hard to tell exactly the size as it was just a random item in my tool box. Its smaller than the 1/8 bit I got. Consequently I was prepared for a challenge since I had read some people mention that drilling it was not easy. It was just fine for me granted i have substantial experience working in construction a few years earlier. I just used some channel lock pliers and a towel as to not rough up the outside of the atomizer cap. I did drill in short bursts because I was not using oil to combat friction. Thats just being maybe overly cautious IMO. Nothing wrong with that though.

Excuse the terrible camera on my outdated phone:

Cleaned it up slapped it back on and gave it a vape. It was def more airy but the harshness was gone and the flavor was great. It made a juice which I found to be un-vapable in the iclear30 that came with my MVP v2 become absolutely enjoyable. So yes it is my opinion that the air holes are simply, and woefully, inadequate on the stock Igo-W. Before the customization it was probably my worst vape. But its all good now. Nice warm vapor (which I like) and a good new learning experience for myself.

Gear:
Igo-W
1.5ohm Micro Coil with organic cotton wick using 28g Kanthal
MVP V2 @ 11watts
Strawberry Shortcake 12mg NIC 50/50 from: Best E Cigarette | Buy Electronic Cigarettes | E Cig Juice - MT Baker Vapor

Where to go from here? What are some other cheap RBA and maybe affordable mech mods to look into?

Thanx for taking the time to read!

Sounds like a pretty similar experience to mine. I got into RDA's about two weeks ago and definitely have the bug. Sounds like you did all the right things and got it figured out pretty well.

As for recommendations, there's plenty out there to try out. I ordered up a few things from FastTech to try out. I'm trying the Trident, the V5 and got a couple more of IGO-L/IGO-W's on order. Of course, I don't have any of these things yet, so I can't give you any personal experience yet.

You might also consider adding a RBA tank system into your setup, it definitely goes beyond the RDA but uses the same principles. Imagine a tank system with the quality of an RDA, pretty epic. I started with a Kayfun 3.1 and like it fairly well. Luxor Vapes has an HCigar version on sale right now, pretty happy with it and cheaper than most places I've found it. You might also consider something like the Kayfun Lite, the Russian 91% or any number of others. I'd probably recommend a clone and maybe upgrade to the real thing if you're happy (and can find one!).

Good luck on your journey!

My suggestion for first IGO-W build if familiar w/ batt safety:
Dual 1/16" air holes.
Dual 1.2 ohm coils to make 0.6 ohm.
1/16" ID, twisted 30GA kanthal, cotton ball wick.

Increase air holes bit by bit to suit yourself.

Because of the device I was using I was not going for the "sub-ohm" vape necessarily. On the safe side i was erring to be on the high end of that. I don't think the MVP will fire below a .7ohms?For curiousity i was aiming for at least that number but going just slightly higher. The dual coil build ended up closer to .8ohm. Perhaps when I move on to a device that can deal in higher wattages and amps I will explore the clouds more.

I like single coil and single air hole topper for supra ohm.

I find my Igo W to be harder to build than say my RSST. I'd match rather wrap the legs around the post as opposed to through the posts. Because like you said, it's way to easy to snap the legs off.

I've been using the screw head terminal; IGO-L style.
Twisted 30GA does not walk much under screw head unlike plain 28GA,

There's nothing stopping you from wrapping the wire under the screw heads. Just because there are holes in the posts doesn't mean you have to use them.

You can even use both -- plenty of people feed the wires through the posts and then wrap them under the screw heads to more securely hold the coil(s).
