I was fortunate enough to stumble across some tips and tricks to maximize my use of the 601 shortly before it was delivered. These may or may not help depending on how far gone your unit is.
Because the wicking material is pointed down into the atomizer almost constantly there is a tendency to flood. This flooding can gum up the atomizer and the automatic switch (the flap that completes the circuit when you take a draw).
1. Don't fill up with too much juice. If you're filling up to the top and you have to wait a minute for it to absorb before you can put the cap on or it'll ooze out and make a mess, you're using too much. Just cut the amount in half and keep a back-up handy. Don't forget, when you're filling it, the cartridge is up so all the liquid will flow down but when installed it's pointing down. Half is plenty. I don't know how many drops that is so do a litttle trial and error. Again, less is more if you want your 601 to last more than 2 weeks.
2. If it floods, vape the excess. Pull out the cartridge and do some vaping. If its flooded you'll find that you can pull out the cartridge and out will still vape like there's one in there. You'll be able to taste when you've used up the excess. If it won't activate while flooded try turning it 90 degrees to either side or even upside down while drawing. This has always worked for me. Once you burn all the crap out of there install a properly filled cartridge and you're good to go. I usually change to a fresh battery at this point just in case.
3. At night or if you're going to leave it at home all day, remove the cartridge, battery and mouthpiece and place the lower unit (bowl) upside down on a table . This will allow it to drain. Every time I put it down, even when in use, I try to put it down upside down. This will prevent flooding.
4. Clean it with a little rubbing alcohol and a Q-tip. This will help with the baked on gunk. Allow sufficient time for the alcohol to evaporate.
5. Blow it out with air. DO NOT USE COMPRESSED AIR! The flap switch is not designed for that kind of pressure. Use your mouth. Place the bowl opening against you mouth and give a long, steady blow, not much more powerful than a draw. Then give it a strong draw from the other end. You don't want to mess up the flap switch. Alternate this 3 or 4 times.
6. Buy yourself a Jazz Cartopipe. If the above maintenance is too much for you and you don't mind a manual switch this would seem to be the product for you. The guy seems to make a quality product and I'm going to get one myself with the tank kit that he sells. If he made one with an automatic draw switch my 601 would be in the garbage right now.
