Ethyl Vanillin Question

I got my DIY supplies in last week ordered the master kit from onestopdiyshop and 18 different flavors from them and Ecigxpress I didn't get any vanilla liquid flavoring i read i could make it with vanillin, I tried it at 1/2 gram and 9ml of PG. then 3/4 gram, then 1 gram i can't remember but there was a post about htis where less was more and the OP had MORE vanilla taste with the 1/2 and 3/4 than with the full gram but i still smell a very faint hint of vanilla not nearly what you would with the vanillin. Any thoughts?? Thanks

Off the supermarket shelf vanillin is to weak to be of any use in mixing.

I am going for a decent RY4 and want to try snickerdoodle by Str8vaping that's why i ordered these particular flavors.......I guess i could just use the Bavarian creme in place of the vanilla?? I haven't tried to mix anything else i figured if i can't get the "just vanilla and PG" right i might need to stay away from DIY LOL.........

A 10% solution is typical - that's 1 gram of Vanillin 'powder' mixed into 9 grams of VG or PG.

Then use that 'flavor' is used at whatever percentage you'd like.

We found using that using .5% - 2% was right for us...and that around 5%+, the flavor seemed to decline.

I have it at 10% right now it just doesn't *smell* like vanilla, it smells the same way it did at 5% and 7%.....I will try to atty drip it and see if the taste comes out through the vape. Just thought this would be straight forward.....vanillin plus PG or VG then steep i ran it thru the UC for 4 hrs and that was 5 days ago so maybe its just my nose buds

No help at the moment, but when you get the chance, check out the ry4 double from TFA. Also, the TFA vanilla swirl is a pretty good ice cream type vanilla imo.

If you read the review the staff response says the following:

STAFF RESPONSE: We've tried dissolving it in vodka in a 20% EV mix. Then using up to 5% to add a hint of flavor.

But having never used it that's about as much help as I can give you.

I never got a great vanilla flavor from vanillin... more like a generic creamy flavor with a hint of vanilla (or something vanilla-ish).

If you're wanting a "full on vanilla vape", vanillin ain't gonna do it. The 10% Vanillin solution is an additive...to give a hint of vanilla (definitely the 'high notes' not the full, low notes) and to enhance things like chocolate...and other flavors that just won't 'pop' without vanilla.

The 10% solution is not meant to be 'vaped straight'...but there's no reason we know of that you can't vape it straight.

And yeah, it needs to steep. You can tell that it's 'all done' when the color changes to a salmony-pink.

Is this just buying the concentrated version of a juice and then tweaking it to my liking?? I might have to go this route but i wanted to try a RY4 from scratch........

I've read your blog and that's why i chose Hangsen for my tobacco flavors i wanted to have a smooth but not overpowering RY4 that i could taste maybe more vanilla or caramel in......thats why i was trying to get a vanilla flavor but it doesn't seem llike this is the way....with the vanillin i mean.

I'm going to order some Capella Vanilla Custard (along with several other flavors) from ecigexpress when they get it back in stock some time next week. I make a fantastic Vanilla Custard juice with this flavoring (best VC flavoring Ive tried so far), however Ive heard that adding a little vanillian really makes the vanilla & custard notes pop & gives it a sweeter more creamy essence. Ive never used vanillian before but I use EM crystals all the time, its a staple in most of my mixes, especially tobacco's & creamy, custard/desert type juices. I usually make a 10% solution by adding 1/4tsp of EM crystals to 10ml of PG, then I use 3% of this solution in my recipes, absolutely LOVE it & prefer it over sucralose. My question is, should I mix the vanillian (ethyl vanillian powder, I'll be getting it from ecigexpress along with my other flavors) the same way I mix EM? Would 1/4tsp in 10ml of PG make a 10% solution? Is there a better, more tried & true mix ratio & at what percentage should I use this in my Vanilla Custard recipe? Any guidance, suggestions & tips on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time fellow vapers, have a good one, take care & VAPE ON!!
