If you have friends who still smoke analogs - or you still smoke analogs - you should know about EVA...

Here's the basics: In 2004 - The US Federal Government introduced the tobacco RIP initiative...
RIP was a cruel joke by legislators which stands for Reduced Ignition Propensity.

By 2010, it the law went into affect in 43 states, and Canada. At the end of this year (2011) the RIP tobacco legislature will be 100% enforced across North America...

The EU, given pressure to follow suit - has done so and 2011 adopted the E2187 standard fire safe cigarette across many of its territories... American and European made cigarettes carrying the FSC moniker emblazoned over ISBN are now being found all over Europe.

At present - These FSC Analogs are the only Analogs available in the USA, and are rapidly becoming ubiquitous in the EU...

So What does it mean?

The E2187 Standard Fire Safe Cigarette (reduced ignition propensity) uses EVA ( ethylene vinyl acetate ) to extinguish itself when not being puffed...

No new labeling, no new warnings, and the WORST tobacco additive in history is now mandated by law to be added to every single analog available...

So what is it? EVA is carpet glue.
The FDA admits (paraphrased):
"The health risks associated with the combustion and inhalation of EVA are entirely unknown - however, we do know that: itchy rash, sever allergic reaction, severe headache, vomiting, ........, mouth sores, and nose bleeds are all associated with EVA exposure ...and we also know that in controlled studies, it caused aggressive tumor growth in rats. Nonetheless we support its use as a mandatory additive to ALL combustible tobacco products worldwide."

What?

It's stuff like that that makes me question what the heck is going on in these people's minds...
No studies, no labeling, no warning - "but we know it causes rashes, severe debilitating headaches, and tumors - but we want laws saying all smokers have to be exposed to it"

It sounds absurd, hard to believe - but it is fact - all cigarettes produced or available in America, and soon to be across the whole of the EU must be E2187 Standard Fire Safe Approved. ...and the E2187 standard is the EVA saturated papers...

Now, some independent studies have been done showing that ONE EVA cigarette contains as much particulate as an entire pack of non EVA smokes!

It is not tar, it is much worse... To understand it - imagine the heavy black smoke from burning glue - just a single drop of glue burnt on your kitchen table is enough to stain your walls and coat a whole room with a nasty yellowish black tary gunk...

So the next time a friend lights up an analog - grab their pack - look at the ISBN (bar code) where you'll find the letters (FSC) written, and then tell them what it means...

Start talking to smokers, and you'll hear the story over and over - "Yeah, last year I started getting these really bad headaches and a nasty dry cough"

That's the wonders of EVA! Analogs, now mandated by law to be coated in Carpet Glue before sale...

Yet another reason to switch to vapor!

What. The. Fuuuuuuuu...

The FDA wanted to ban safer alternatives like E-cigarettes at the same time they wanted to coat cigarette papers in freaking carpet glue that, as a dosage in one single cigarette, is in and of itself is likely worse for you than an entire pack of regular cigarettes. And it's stuff for which no proper studies have been done, yet they wanted to ban E-cigs for the exact same reasons.

I don't even have words.

@rainkeltoia - I sort of deliberately didn't link out, because there is just so much info on this out there, there's literally whole forums dedicated to it, a nationwide petition, a lobbyist organization... It goes on and on...

So if you google "Fire Safe Cigarette" or "Reduced Ignition Propensity Cigarettes" or "EVA in Cigarettes" you'll get a flood of results...

I left links out because I wanted to encourage people to verify this for themselves and get a discussion going - as my post really DOWNPLAYS how it actually is. If you get out there surfing on it, you'll find really horrible, disturbing, and inflammatory stories about it... Some people have gotten really sick from the EVA...

One terrible story is this: American Spirits, in keeping with thier "Additive Free" motto developed an algae based starch that meets all the criteria for reduced ignition propensity... The starched smokes do the exact smae thing, and meet the criteria for a Fire Safe Cigarette - For two years, they used it, and no one even noticed, it was just basically a paper that goes out very quickly, no taste, no chems... But in 2010 the E2187 Standard went into effect and the FDA forced them to stop using the plant based solution and switch to the toxic EVA! They even made special laws so that "Additive Free" can still be written on their boxes even though THEY ADD CARPET GLUE to their cigarettes!

Like - "Additive Free Since 1984! (unless you count the burning carpet glue you're inhaling)"

There are all kinds of wild stories like that out there... Please post anything interesting you find, I'd love to see it!

As a starting point, wikipedia corroborates pretty much everything I posted: Fire safe cigarette - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The FDA needs a class action lawsuit against them for this. It's bad enough that we smoked and others still smoke but this is just downright dirty. I still think the FDA is behind population control and this is one of many ways they keep population under control. I would love for someone from the FDA to get on national TV and explain to the millions of smokers that this is in their best interest.

Thank you for explaining Wind, I very much appreciate it! After I posted I did do a little research myself into it, and it is some very scary stuff. Words cannot express... well they can, but PG13 words cannot express. It explains a lot of things and scares the .... out of me for my family and friends who have not switched or quit.

This is just crazy!!!!! I had no idea at all! I'm kind of speechless! I'll probably use a thousand exclamation points in this just because I kind find all the right words to say!

So I read this and I thought, "Well, I'm in Florida. We probably haven't gotten it yet. We're pretty well a 'personal rights' kind of state." So I read the article and then read it to my wife (who smokes but I'm getting her into vaping with me). We were just speechless! My wife was kind of sick about it. So, I ran up to the kitchen counter and grabbed a pack of her smokes and sure enough "FSC" was on the UPC.

What's sadly funny is on the way back in from smoking my last analog (and before reading this post), I got a slight headache (I've been getting them a lot in the past year too). I thought to myself "Man I'm glad I'm quiting these things and starting vaping." Then I read this! Totally amazing! So I thought I was gonna have one last "fair well" cigarette before starting my 100% vaping endeavor but not now.

Thank you for the great write up and bringing this topic to the surface again for us noobs to read.

Wow. Thanks for that info. I remember times when I'd be having a smoke with co-workers and getting lost in conversation. When I'd remember to puff on my analog, I'd get nothing but burning filter taste (yech!) and lit another. Lately (before my beloved 510) I remember the same situation, but puffing nothing but stale tobacco tasting air and wondering WTH? I also used to smoke cigars, and cigars have always done that, but cigs- WTH?
Now that I know, (and remember the headaches and dizzyness it caused me) I add yet another reason NOT to go back, so thanks!

I checked the "keepsake" last pack I keep around from last April, but no FSC on it. Either it hasn't made it to Canada or it hasn't made it to that brand. Either way I think I came back to vaping not a moment too soon. This is utterly and absolutely sickening.
