Barb, sorry to hear about your friend and she's in our prayers.

but to answer your question no...sure going to the convenience store was easier..

but we didn't do that anyways..I had to plan online orders and have a back up machine, tobacco, tubes..it was a PAIN. (but one I was willing to do for it to be $8/carton)

but keeping back ups of back ups....and lots of juice and keeping it simple (I just don't want to change batteries and build coils just yet if ever) it's relatively easy..iStick Number one or two, (or the plethora of other MVP or ego types) and a V2 and I'm ready to go. Easy peasy.

and the health benefits are immeasurable..we've got a flu bug right now..and we had that bad H1N1/pneumonia one last year (which helped lead us to quitting smoking) and this time around it's so much lighter a case..we're not nearly as sick as we were for as long...

define "easier" breathing easier? less prescriptions for breathing medications easier? less clothing, furniture, carpet, cars, with burn marks easier? not stinking of ciggies easier...

no I'd say vaping is still "easier" :)

many blessings for you & your friend. :)

Have you ever gotten tired of the hassle of vaping? Ever feel: Wow! all I needed to smoke was a pack and a lighter. -And gum, but no.
No gurgling, no burnt hits, -i use RDAs, dont have these problems.
no batteries to charge -eh, i plug my gear in while plugging in my phone and ipod. One extra step isnt so bad
, no coils to change/coils to wind. -5 minutes every couple days is negligible.
Ever get frustrated, remembering you never stood at a gas station wondering what flavor to get? No, i make my juice.
Has it all ever felt like too much to figure out? No. I guess the most annoying thing is trying to get high VG juice through a syringe. But eh, not that big of a problem.

They are rhetorical questions, intended for those just starting out. Sure, most of us enjoy rebuilding and so forth, but at one time or another, we all faced a steep learning curve. My post was meant to encourage people who are quitting smoking, highlighting the fact that the decision to start vaping was one that may in fact, save our lives or at least, save us from the terror my friend Barb & all of us who love her, face right now.

I could find no "start thread" option for the New Members Forum, which is the audience I'm actually addressing. Sure it's been a long time since I sat there, pulling my hair out, thinking about how easy it is to smoke, but I can remember it vividly & just wanted to take a minute to remind those who are in that position to hang in there, nothing short of their lives are at stake.

I had a hell of a time trying to build a coil on my lemo last night, took me about an hour and half, I just couldn't get the ohm reading I wanted. Then, when I finally got it right, I bumped into the desk it was sitting on while I was looking for my cotton and it dropped on the floor and I lost it. I tore my entire room apart for the next hour trying to find it, I finally did thank goodness (somehow it rolled under my bed on the other side of the room). It was the first time since I have completely switched to vaping that I almost said ...... it and got a pack of cigs. Luckily, I didn't get to that point, and even if I did I know I would regret it pretty quick.

Ironically, the thing that I love most about vaping is also the thing I hate most about it: all of the options. On one hand, I like being able to try out new devices and different types of builds and juice flavors, but on the other hand, it makes it very hard to "settle" on something and it always keeps you wanting something new and different.

For me, the main reasoning I switched to vaping was to save money and there is no doubt that it has done that for me. I also feel so much bettering since I started vaping, back when I smoked cigarettes I would have a cough literally everyday now its basically completely gone. I also like the fact that my clothes and breath don't smell like an ashtray anymore, I use menthol/mint flavored liquids so if anything, my breath smells better haha.

No never ... if I could gain back all the time I spent just going to the smoke store, or even waiting in line to buy smokes ... I'd be 5 years younger right now.

once you find your perfect vape setup and several ADVs ... it couldn't be any easier.

Well, that's how my good friend felt. As hard as I tried to explain everything, to make vaping as easy as possible, she is a "old dog" not willing to learn "new tricks."

Well, now we have a lot to figure out. They found 5 spots on her lungs today. We have to figure out the best hospital for her treatment, the best oncologist, the best approach to her care..

So if you ever feel overwhelmed by all you have to figure out and you have that day when you feel, my cigarettes ALWAYS worked right -- hang in there. It's your life that's at stake. If you are inclined to, please pray for my friend Barb and please -- never quit quitting!!!!

Thanks,
Barb

I hope things work out, you'll have our prayers.

Yes, I have been there, I have had the midnight runs to the gas station for a pack of Camels because I burnt yet another carto, I have had the bummed cigarette at the bar because my tank is leaking and gurgling, I even had the 5 month back slide where I started smoking again and stopped vaping altogether, but I pushed through it and now can say with ease and affirmation that I will never go back to cigarettes, no matter what, I'm sorry to hear about your friend, my thoughts are with you both

So sorry to hear about your friend. I have had many moments when my equipment is not working like it should and I think how easy it was to just grab a CIG and lighter. Then I think of my mom who died a miserable death due to acute COPD. I don't want my kids to see MW go through that. So I will deal with the occasional problems with my equipment and weekly maintenance. My prayers are with your friend and thank you for posting this as it affirms why I choose to vape.

Yup, there have been a number of times I've thought, dang, open pack, flick lighter, POOF. However, I have been able to resist the temptation. I have plenty of gear, I'm capable of rebuilding coils and making my own juice. As mentioned above, (I think by roxy) I don't have to fiddle all the time. I usually have at least a couple of tanks at the ready and somewhere there's a mod with a good charge on it.

I lost my uncle to lung cancer about 15 months ago. For years before, I kept saying "I need to quit", but my head wasn't in it. It still took another six months after his passing for me to FINALLY put down the smokes.

Sending you and your friend many prayers....

Yeah, anyone who asks this, I usually tell 'em sure, smoking is easy; so is dying from it, as my father did. I'll take complicated and messy over easy any day, if it means I might get a few extra years, and better health, more enjoyable living, in the meantime.

All the best to your friend... I'm sure we all realize that there but for the grace of vaping, go most of us.

Sorry about your friend, hope it goes well. None of us are out of the circle though. My best friend smoked cigarettes for years, then switched to cigars. This was years before ecigs came out. Ten years to the month after he finally gave up cigars he was diagnosed with lung cancer. He had surgery to remove the tumour, but after they opened him up they discovered it was wrapped around a major artery and was too dangerous to mess with. And that's a horrible surgery, they have to pull your ribcage open. He went through chemo and radiation. Eventually it got down to the size of a walnut and they were about to operate to remove the last bit of tumour, and he found out it had migrated to his brain. He died soon after that. We've all swallowed the poison, all we can do is try to improve our chances.

Mind you, I heard a good comment on healthy living recently. Some TV doctor had calculated that if we lived perfectly healthy lives, ideal food, no smoking or drinking or drugs, jogging every day, breathing clean air, etc, we could improve our life expectancy from 75 to 90, or something along those lines. Then he asked the question, is a 75 year life really more meaningful than a 90 year life.

It's always sad when someone checks out, but it will happen to all of us. I'll be happy if I can get there without too much coughing or lugging an oxygen bottle around. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I am so sorry to hear this! I wish your friend all the best and a full recovery! She will be in my prayers.

But one thing I do not understand: with the lovely long-life batteries (variable voltage, if desired) and the lovely atomizers available nowadays - what is there not to like? What is there so problematic? I use a MT3S clearomizer - with exchangeable atomizer heads - it is like an EVOD - and variable voltage batteries. And I am completely happy and satisfied.

There is no need to bother with making coils and learning all this complicated technology if you do not want to. I have been vaping for three years now - and I have no interest whatsoever into bothering with tiny little itty bitty thingies or learning complicated technology stuff. No interest whatsoever.

Look at it this way: When you smoke cigarettes
- the wind can blow out the flame on your lighter
- as soon as you light a cigarette, the bus comes
- you always have to "finish the cigarette first"
- "the wind smokes" your cigarette, or it burns out in the ashtray, wasting your money
- tobacco crumbs in your purse and in your pockets (and then drop a piece of candy into your purse.. eewwww... icky)
- the house smells of smoke and your curtains get yellow

Now, as a vaper, those hassles are things of the past.

Vape on! :)

/edit:
Almost daily I feel like that. Often say to my wife " I don't know how people vape that are not at least a little mechanically inclined".

Easy. They just vape :)
If I had to work on my own car whenever it needs some working on, I'd still be riding the bus :D

Yeah... Don't get me started in losing small pieces of vape gear!! I swear, since I started rebuilding, my house has never been cleaner since I clean to search for whatever I lost this time :)
