Anyone ever tried wrapping SS around cotton after oxidizing and juice burning it?

It just hit me and, in my head, it sounds like it'd be epic for people with wicking trouble. Unfortunately I can't test it as I only own SS (oh wait while typing this I realize I have a few pre-wrapped wick and coils I could take the coil off of but probably won't do it until I hear back in this topic) so if anyone has tried this or wants to please give me some feedback.

i think its not worth it... i cover my fill hole with a screw on my genesis style tank... that centre hole in the SS wick is the only passage of air to get back into the tank.... filling that with cotton will block that air flow.

no air in, no juice out! the tank has to equalize pressure somehow.

sure i can take the screw out, but the fill hole is big enough to slowly leak... i can control the size of wick hole, i can't control the size of fill hole (make it smaller).

if your wick isn't wicking, you have a problem and should resolve it, not make a band-aid solution that takes more time and extra steps...

if your a VG user, filling the center of an SS wick with cotton wont help feed the wick much...

There are a couple of videos on youtube about hybrid cotton/SS wicks. One involves using the thread from cheesecloth, putting it through the center of the SS wick and wrapping it around the SS so it is in between the SS and coils (SS Mesh/Cotton hybrid wick - YouTube). There is another one that uses cotton batting (Mesh/Cotton hybrid wick Bluegrasslover's method - YouTube) in between the SS and coils.

I tried the cheesecloth method but didn't like it because the cotton will eventually burn and leave a bad taste. Also, the cotton in the center didn't really seem to help much at all. I eventually settled on the cigarette paper method that involves wrapping the SS with cigarette paper and then burning it off (edit: here is a link for the rolling paper method - Wrapping A Genesis Atty Using Rolling Paper - YouTube). I also rolled the SS as tight as possible because people say that that the hole in the center actually helps suck the juice back into the tank or something like that - either way it works. I do leave the screw in the fill hole but I don't screw it in tight because it does help me control the amount of juice that is pulled up the wick. Without the screw, it seemed to keep flooding - I don't know if it was from juice leaking from the fill hole or too much juice going up the wick. I do sometimes have to take a "primer" drag to wet the wick but for the most part it works for me.
