An Ego-T 900 mAh battery and a cheap unnamed plastic clearo that was top fed (vivi nova style). I tasted burnt plastic for days and thought "man this vaping thing tastes like ....." Come to find out, the rubber insulator was burnt and it took me a while to figure that out.

Then I moved on to a SMOK spinner/twist 1100 mAh battery and a decent Protank mini setup and vaping became enjoyable. I quit vaping for about 6 months at this point and went back to smoking. Not because I didn't like vaping but because I got chest congestion and got nervous that vaping was causing it.

Then I decided to give vaping another try and went and got an iStick 20w and a Kayfun clone and was even more satisfied.

Recently, I went and picked up an IPV mini2 and a Orchid and am even more blown away. Hitting it at 30-40 watts all day and it blows my old 10 watt vaping on the Kayfun out of the water. The Kayfun produces excellent flavor but I am not sure if 10 watts (1.7 Ohms) is enough for me now. I like the warmer 30 watt dual-coil and subohm vape from the Orchid better. I suppose I could put a lower Ohm build in the Kayfun and up the wattage a bit, but those tanks aren't really designed for cloud chasing.

Started out 4 years ago with a horrible cigalike where you had to drip into a bit of cotton inside the mouth piece that sat on top of the atty. Tiny battery life, needed to be re-dripped every 4-5 puff. I nearly went back to cigarettes. Then moved onto an ego with with carts.
Now my everyday vape is a Nautilus mini on a Sigelei 30w tube mod, and when I want to blow clouds a Plume Veil V1.5 or a Mutation X V3 on a Panzer clone.

My first was an EVOD style setup from VaporPro (Currently VaporFi). I think the e-liquid I got from them was the big helper. I ordered a fruit flavor, tobacco with menthol, and one called God Father (Amaretto & Bourbon). The fruit didn't do it for me initially. The tobacco and menthol also wasn't great at first. The one called God Father was what did it for me. Unfortunately, it also introduced me to a killer sore throat, followed by "vaper's tongue". Other than the throat hit, I couldn't taste my favorite e-liquid at all. The drive to not smoke was what got me through it all.

I would suggest any EVOD as a great starting point for anyone trying to get off tobacco.

I started on Greensmoke cig-a-likes but they didn't work for me. Fast forward almost 2 years and I got acquainted with vaping proper at a tech conference. I then picked up what turned out to be a proprietary eGo style battery and top coil clearo and moved quickly into regulated mods and Vivi Nova tanks with a brief detour through the Kanger Protank.

Starting would have been so much easier with the VW mods and the clearos from Kanger and Aspire that are available these days. Despite that, I've been satisfied with my journey. :)

I started with an eRoll; after several weeks, I figured out the drawbacks of cigalikes and got an iTaste vv3 and a Kanger T3S. Then I got 5 more T3Ss, now cluttering up my "obsoleted" drawer with the eRoll stuff.

Now, I use 3 diff Kayfuns, a Magma, and sometimes cartos and an Igo-S for taste-testing, on: a Sigelei Zmax v3; a Vamo v2, a Fallen Angel (mech+Kick), a Galileo (mech+Kick), 3 diff vv3s, and an ARO Winder. I also still have a nice Smok UDCT (cartotank), but I grew tired of the constant replacement cost of punched cartos.
