My eVic just randomly went into this test mode. The screen said:

Test Mode
Main
Key Start

Now it says:

Test Mode
Complete
Key Start

In both cases it is non-responsive, screen just stays there - tried clicking the button 5x, holding the button down, and removing the battery and it stays in this test mode state. Has anyone seen this? How do I fix this?

If you haven't already, install the MVR software and see if it recognizes it. If so, you should be able to flash it to recover it. If the standard v1.2 firmware update doesn't work, try downloading the factory default file from the firmware downloads on joyetech's website. Flash that, and then upgrade to 1.2, and you should be good to go. They have that firmware file there for specifically this recovery type situation. If you can't get your PC/MAC to recognize the device, though, you're kind of SOL. Will need to see if you can claim some sort of warranty either with the vendor or joyetech.

EDIT:

Place it in the HEX folder in the MVR program's install directory, or if using a MAC, place the firmware file on your desktop. This will be a "code.bin" file. Then "upgrade" the evic using MVR, and it will flash the reset file. Then replace that code.bin with the v1.2 code.bin and upgrade it again back to v1.2.

And here is how to recover if it's not recognized copy and pasted directly from their PDF guide on how to recover the evic:

Method 2
If you couldn't open eVic after upgrading, please use the following method to repair.
1 Disconnect the power supply of eVic, press the enter button, insert the USB interface and connect with the
computer, keep pressing the enter button for 2 seconds.
2. If it successed to wake up the eVic,the computer will display the USB equipment icon
3. Then you can use MVR to upgrade the eVic again.

Glad you got it going. You'd be surprised what other devices that works with lol. Basically when you disconnect a battery/power, there are components that may still be holding a charge. The device does not always discharge instantly when power is cut. If you experience issues with an electronic device, killing the power for an hour so (staying on the EXTREMELY safe side, usually you can let it sit for 10 minute or so, sometimes less) may sometimes be enough to reset whatever component wigged out on you. This of course will not fix an issue caused by actual hardware failure or corrupt firmware.

ugh, happened again...went into test mode so I just disconnected the head and let it sit overnight. Now the head is totally unresponsive - MVR won't even pick it up. Guess I'm SOL now?

Edit - left it plugged in the computer and it's back to the Test Mode screen, I unplugged it and plugged it back in and the screen just pops back up and MVR won't recognize it.

I would try different USB port, maybe press button while plugging in.

That actually worked, MVR sees it now and alerts me that it is in Safe Mode and MVR won't let me change the firmware.

Edit - tried to do a factory reset on the Windows version and it worked, head seems to be working now, gonna let the head charge by itself plugged into Windows...hopefully this doesn't happen again.

Having mine for over a month using it a ton i updated it and 2 days later now it goes to test screen and locks it out
at random then goes back to normal i reinstalled and updated it same thing now 2 days im going mad over this. I have a feeling something to do with the software idk and yes i am running 1.2
Yes it wasn't on it, however I had to send two back to the vendor I got it from because they were on the recall list.

I have upgraded to 1.2 and I haven't had any problems since.
