I always figured it takes more juice to heat up more metal. Of course more metal, used well, can result in more vapor.

If using the same number of wraps and same ID of coil the larger diameter wire will have more surface area, more mass to heat up but less resistance than smaller diameter wire of the same type. Its generally considered that more surface area equates to more vapor.

However if we attempt to match the surface area of the larger diameter wire with the smaller diameter wire, (as an example) it would take 11 wraps of 28AWG Ti1 to have approximately the same surface area as 6 wraps of 24AWG. (assuming there is room for all those wraps) the 28AWG coil will have 37% less mass to heat/cool than the 6 wrap 24AWG coil.

Personally I'd drive the higher resistance 28AWG coil (0.66 ohms) with less power than the 0.16 ohm 24AWG coil, which will require less current (and power) from the battery and extend run time on a charge.

    YMMV

    Update time:
I heard back again from JT saying request a refund from your supplier, if they're no help fill in this form and send it to us. So that's something. I think there's a bit of a language barrier at JT, I don't think anyone reads english well enough to reply the detailed emails they're getting about the issues.

For those still having issues, I got a little glimmer of hope from madboy over on the evic forum:
Have you tried re-flashing the firmware? Upload a new firmware image http://www.joyetech.com/mvr-software/?sid=155 (just to ensure that the one you originally downloaded is not corrupt) Downgrade the firmware to say 1.1 (with the battery out), then put the battery back in. Take the USB lead out of the Mini. Remove tank, press the fire button a couple of times. Remove battery. Now re-flash the firmware to 1.2. Put battery back in and see what happens.

I hadn't previously been able to flash without the battery in but it worked this time although I got some checksum errors. Despite those errors the unit seems to not be having the sleep issues although I didn't test it extensively with Ti, I've been on SS coils now for a while and whilst there's not a lot of temp control with SS (210f too cool, 220f too warm) it's pretty reliable so that what I'm sticking with until JT release a SS profile in an update.

That is better than my reply I got from JT to take my tank off until it cools and try again :)
I already sent mine back to my vendor, but I had tried the re-flashing of FW multiple times, tried at every FW version with no luck.

So as I am having problems with Ni TC Mode and the resistance locking with Firmware 1.20 I switched back to Firmware 1.02. I have the 1.00 hardware version. Anyone know if this helps?
I actually tried this a couple days ago, since v1.10 is where the "dynamic resistance" feature was supposedly added. Figured hey, maybe that's doing it.

Didn't help. EDIT: Well, it DID stop the ohms on the LED display from changing, but the temp control was still too aggressive, leading to the same anemic vapes. I also found a thread on a UK vaping board that talks about the eVIc's problem too, and if anyone cares I can outline how to get the mod to work for like, 10 minutes at a time. I think it's been gone over in this thread though.

BTW I ordered the IPV3LI yesterday, so hopefully I'll be in happier TC times soon. :)

Yeah, that was my thought. Why is there no manual resistance adjustment... I know my resistance...

Exactly. They might even be able to add the feature in a FW update too, who knows. Maybe have it detect like it does now, if slightly off, you can use the left & right buttons to manually correct it before you lock it, and make sure that the locked value is always respected through sleep, power off, etc...

it seems simple enough to do, but I am not a mod designer or FW programmer, so I don't know. But if I have a .20 Ohm coil that I know from putting on another mod or tester is .20 ohm, then it doesn't matter what the eVic thinks it is right?

The device isn't super complicated, surprised there's not a coder out there that hasn't done custom firmware yet.
