EVOD heads missing flavor wick???

So I started rewicking a couple of my Evod heads with cotton a couple days ago (still trying to get it right haha)..
Ive gone though all these online how to's here and there, and I see on everyone elses Evod coils, the flavor wick on top of the coil..

So far the three of mine I opened up did NOT have this in them.. Theyre the 1.8 ohm heads, not sure if that matters, but is this normal??
All my stuff verified as legit on Kangers website as well.. Just struck me as odd that in every tutorial Ive seen on rewicking/rebuilding, everyone elses have that wick on top.

What big difference does that wick on top make anyways?? Should I be adding one when Im rewicking these with cotton??

I think they are there to help plug the gap so the coil won't flood as easily, also might prevent hot juice from spitting on your tongue. Don't see any harm adding a small twist of cotton when you rebuild.

Ahh gotcha! And go figure I just bought a bottle of new juice, dumped the rest of the apple I had in my other tank into the one on my battery..
Decided to take apart the coil to rinse it out and THIS one had flavor wicks in it.. Looks like maybe the 5 pack that it comes with DOES have them but maybe the two that were preinstalled in the tanks didnt?? For all I know I completely missed it when I opened the first couple and it just fell out..
I actually lost one when I pulled open the new coil and it fell right down the drain in the sink haha. Ooops..
