Hey Everyone,

I've been vaping for a couple years now on my old trusty EVOD setup. I believe I'm still using 1000mah batteries. It's getting to the point that I'm debating on if its worth replacing batteries or upgrading to something else. So, I've been considering the eVic VTC Mini with the Tron tank but I dont know much about mods and such. So, let me give you the basics:

What I Want:
  • Portable (Can put in my pocket easily with it looking like I'm packing heat)
  • Adjustable (if I'm feeling like a little more vape that day, I'd like to be able to kick it up)
  • Upgradable (nothing more annoying than a company releasing a new device for a simple software upgrade)
  • Available (Mainly something I can get coils for easily)
  • Removable battery
  • Can last me a day on one charge (I usually go through 2 EVOD batteries in a day)
  • Around $100
  • Something I can still use my EVOD tanks with. I really like carrying around several small tanks with different flavors with me all day so I can switch.
What I dont want (or don't care about):
  • Don't care about creating clouds of vape
  • I don't need top of the line at this point. Just an upgrade from EVOD
  • I don't need something that does some crazy sub ohm, "Is this really a smart idea?", kind of stuff.
My vaping habits:
  • I guess I'm mouth to lung (sometimes just mouth as I don't inhale all of the time)
  • I mainly vape PG 65%/VG 35% fruit juices with a little splash of menthol
  • I build my own coils with the EVOD. Usually around 1.8ohm with Kanthal
I have read that the Tron tank isn't the best option out there. I'm sure there are plenty better. But, for around $14 more over just getting the mod by itself, I'm willing to give it a shot. First, I'm sure it'll still be an upgrade over the EVOD and, second, I can always upgrade later.

Does the eVic VTC Mini with the Tron tank sound like a good option for me?

Thanks!

I have not tried the Tron tank, but have the evic mini with the original ego one tank.

The evic mini is much heavier/blockier than an ego/evod setup. I love the mod but not sure I would say it is pocket friendly. I have smaller lighter devices I use for out and about. Just my opinion. My wife loves hers for out but she has a purse.

Yes, you can use your evod tanks with the supplied adapter, but you would want to fire those at the very low end of the power spectrum...like 7-8 watts.

I have an evic vtc mini with ego one tank.

The vtc mini is a great little mod;
It goes all the way down to 1 watt, so I see no problem wattage wise to use your evod tank on it, but you will need and ego/510 adapter.

For pocket friendly I dunno if any mod is really pocket friendly, unless maybe a squonker; Maybe the NeBox (looks more like a cellphone in your pocket), but even so there's still the possibility of a leak.

The tron seems to be a joyetech tank, so sounds good; maybe its an upgrade of the ego one. Haven't heard much about it.

Firmware upgrade on my vtc mini was super easy 5 minute thing.
Can take nickel, tit, steel and has tcr capability.

My main problem with it is I haven't figured out if I can disassemble it if it needs repair.

It's metal, not plastic, so I'm confident about it's durability.

I got my VTC Mini when it still came with the Ego One tank, so can't really comment on the Tron. With that said, the mod is great in my opinion. And the Ego One tank also had a lot of people who said it wasn't that great, but I like it better than some others I've tried (including ones that were recommended to me such as the Kanger subtank) for mouth to lung, so it really is a matter of personal preference with tanks. The Tron uses the same heads, so I'm guessing it would be a similar vape. And there are rebuildable options if you prefer to make your own coils.

    Yes, is the answer.

Personally, I chose to not get the kit. Tron tank? Not for me.

My opinion is to keep Joyetech at arm's-length at all times. If you are going to rebuild, fair enough, but getting drawn into the murky world of buying Joyetech accessories (atomizer/coils) is like entering the den of Wolves.

I like the mini. Can I hide it in my jacket for meetings and presentations? No. :p

My opinions are based on 2 simple truths for the UK buyer. No.1a - most Joyetech is sold through Totally Wicked and it's totally too much money. No.1b - if you shop at Joyetech themselves, best to have discount code or a large wallet.
No. 2 - If you can find a shop that sells Joyetech, living with the attitude of superiority is kind of annoying.

The eVic mini VTC is actually the only decent thing to come out from them in years anyway. I love it. I also bought it from Joyetech as genuine warranties are more rare than aliens playing for the Boston Red Sox.

    Great mod, mind you. :thumb:

The VTC mini is a decent enough mod. Its larger and heavier than a iStick TC40 but it has a replaceable battery. Currently they are available with the "Tron" tank which is a decent enough tank. (much like anything else, there are better out there) I use the CLR coil heads with mine and wind/build my own coils.

The Kanger "Top Tank" is a better tank, has a RBA with screws to secure the wire, larger capacity and is top fill. The RED Kanger top fill tank matches the RED VTC mini fairly well.

I only get ~8hrs or less out of my single 18650 mods and the VTC mini is no exception. The mod+Tron tank make a nice little package.

The second choice on my list was the Kangar TopBox Mini with the TopTank. I really like the idea of the RBA with screws. My main concern was the lack of firmware updating. Is that really that big of a deal?

Like I said, I could always get the TopTank or any other tank later on down the road. I just figured the Tron is worth a shot since it's not much more to get it in a kit over just getting the mod by itself.

Best system on the go is the VTC with the Tron. Tron tank is the best one in Joyetechs line up. Never leaks a drop or gather up juice in the connector like the eGo One tanks. CL coils are the easiest stock coils to rebuild. I think it is the very best system for the money on the market right now. A very dependable system. CHEERS!

Might add that the Tron tank with the clr coils (the "r" stand for rebuildable so be sure to get the clr coils) rebuild pretty much the same way as you would rebuild your evod/protank coils.

Where are you from indypilot. I'm an old Hoosier (well Boilermaker actually) born and raised in Lebanon.

Yeah, I was looking at a YouTube video of the CLR coils yesterday. Very similar process to the evod coils so I should be comfortable with that.

Stupid question but it does look like the coils will be larger. Right now, for my evod coils, I use cotton yarn to wick them. It comes with 4 threads. I put two inside of the coil and two on top of the coil. For something like the CLR coils, can I still use the cotton yarn or do I need something different? Also, I'm assuming I would need to get nickle or titanium wire for temperature control. Kanthal won't work. Correct?

I'm originally from the Anderson area. Moved to Indy a few years ago and finally settled in Fishers. Not a bad state to live in if you can stay away from all of the shootings we've had the past few years.

Stainless steel will do both when you recoil them if you choose. SS316L. One of only a few Mods that has SS settings for Temp Control or SS can be used in VV/VW. CHEERS!

Wait, so you are saying I can use SS for both the Tron and the EVOD tanks? And that I can essentially use the EVOD tanks on temp control if I do its coils with SS?

SS in TC or VW on Tron. As long as the Evod have the 510 connector yes they will work on TC. But they would only work in wattage on the Evod batteries in SS. Mostly all I use for everything now is SS316L.

Hmm, ok, thanks for the info! Sounds like it makes sense to just keep the EVOD's with Kanthal so I can keep using the EVOD batteries if I want.

Man, it's crazy how much things have changed in just the past two years! Really neat to see the industry changing so much.

So, here is my shopping list.
    1. eVic VTC Mini w/ Tron
    2. Pack of 5 eGo One CLR Atomizers 0.5ohm
    3. Spool of SS316L
    4. 2 LG HG2 INR18650 LiMn 3000mAh Batteries - 20 Amp
    5. Dual 18650 Battery Charger

I have a bunch of walmart undyed cotton yarn I use for the Evod. As for wrapping the coils, I use a nail for now that with 5 wraps gives me 1.8ohm. I guess I can just find something and experiment so it gives me around 0.5ohm with the SS.

That brings me right at $101. Am I missing anything?

Yeah, I moved to the southside of Indy when I was married (my wife is from Carmel), then bought a house up near Ft. Ben...but that was the 1970s. Moved to Cincy in the 80s and then moved around the country after that.

Honestly, I just use organic cotton balls (from Walmart) and pick a bit and roll it into a wick. I think most folks on here use organic cotton sheets. Whatever works I guess. I suppose as long as the yarn covers the juice holes/slots, it should work.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I'm FINALLY getting ready to place my order since I found the VTC /w TRON on sale. The place I'm buying from carries two batteries, Sony VTC4 18650 2100mAh 30A and Samsung INR18650 25R 2500mAh 20A. It's only a $1 difference between the two so price doesnt matter.

Should I go with one over the other?
