So, I'm sure this is silly but I want to make sure I'm "getting it".

I'm still a newbie and so far, I really like the Evods. I have noticed that, depending on where I buy them, they come with 1.8 or 2.5 ohm coils. I'm using them with eGo-C Twist and Vision Spinner batteries.

From what I gather, if I am using a 1.8 ohm coil I should use my battery at 3.5 - 3.8, and a 2.5 ohm coil at the higher settings of 4.2 - 4.5? I read that darker juices seem to vape better using 1.8 ohm coils, does that generally work better in your experience? I also have a Kanger Mini Protank 2 that I really like...it came with two 1.8 ohm coils. Could I use 2.5 ohms in them as well? Does using the batteries at the higher settings tend to drain them faster, and does using the higher ohms generally use more juice?

I feel like I have been reading up on things so much that I'm getting myself confused (which doesn't take much lol). I suppose a lot of this boils down to personal preference but I figure the results are bound to be better/safer when doing it (somewhat) properly!

!

The Evod coils fit the protank.

Your voltage settings seem right to me. I am sure someone will be along with the math. I used the 1.8 ohm coils on a non twist battery and that was the sweet spot for me.

Hi LovesButtercups and welcome to the forum!

I'll try to answer your questions as best I can.

Actually, it's heat that is the major factor with different juices. Using the same ohm coil, generally darker juices perform better at higher power (Watts or Voltage). Higher power with the same ohms produce more heat.

The Kanger can use the 2.5 ohm coils from Kanger. Just make sure you get the ones made for the Protank 2 and not the ones for Protank 3 as tthe coils for the Protank 3 won't fit your Protank 2 Mini.

Yes, using the higher power settings will tend to drain the batteries faster and use more juice. But also produce more vapor. It's a trade-off.

Hope it helps and Happy Vaping!

To some extent, but it is best to just adjust to your personal preference.

I read that darker juices seem to vape better using 1.8 ohm coils, does that generally work better in your experience?
Again, adjust to your personal preference, regardless of what the juice looks like.

I also have a Kanger Mini Protank 2 that I really like...it came with two 1.8 ohm coils. Could I use 2.5 ohms in them as well?
Yes, the EVOD coils can be used in any of the Kanger single coil clearos/tanks, including the Protank, Protank II, and Protank II Mini.

Does using the batteries at the higher settings tend to drain them faster,
Yes.

and does using the higher ohms generally use more juice?
Actually, lower ohm will use more juice. Lower ohm will allow the coil to get hotter which will vaporize more eliquid.

I suppose a lot of this boils down to personal preference...
Exactly!

It doesn't have to be that hard. I would first buy a 1.8 ohm coil and start out at 3.7... Turn up the voltage as you see fit until you find the spot that works for you. If the coils go dry too soon, then turn it down just a bit. You shouldn't have to be a math wiz to vape. The voltage setting is there to adjust to the users level. Me, I sometimes vape real low ohms, and blow plumes of vapor, then I see my mother in law with a little Cigalike that I can barely see any vapor... she likes that. Use whatever setting and whatever voltage that works.

Hi Loves and welcome. :)

Rule of thumb--the cleaner and clearer the juice, the better and cleaner it will vape. Dark, sweet juices will gunk up your coils pretty fast--if that's what you like to vape, you'll have to clean your coils (or change them) often.

On the subject of resistance and voltage and wattage:

Disclaimer: This is the most simplistic explanation and is addressed to new vapers or vapers who are happy within the recommended "just right" power zone (4.5-8 watts) and use stock coils.

Ohm's Law as it pertains to vaping is really not that complicated--and it's very useful when you want to know what you're doing.

Voltage and wattage are often misunderstood by new vapers. Wattage is the power (heat, sweet spot) that your PV (battery and atomizer) generates. Wattage = Voltage (of your battery) squared divided by Resistance (Ω) of your atomizer [P=V[SUP]2[/SUP]/R]. If you're not good at math, don't worry, use this easy calculator:

Online Conversion - Ohm's Law Calculator

Of course, if you own a VW (variable wattage) device, you don't really need this calculator because your device will do the math for you.

The wattage you want, especially at the beginning of your vaping career, should be somewhere between 4.5 and 8.5 watts per coil. Anything lower than 4.5 watts may not vaporize your juice properly and will not produce enough warmth and vapor. Anything above 8.5 watts increases the risk of burning the filler in your cartomizers (if you're using them) or dry with your clearomizers.

There are, of course, other variables, like eliquid and JDD (juice delivery devices) that you're using on your batteries. Seven watts on a filler type cartomizer may feel different than the same 7 watts on a fillerless clearomizer or a dripping atomizer. The same is true for different eliquids; tobaccos, chocolate and coffees generally require more wattage (heat), while fruit and other delicate flavors do better with less heat. Everyone's sweet spot is different--those are just very general guidelines.

If you are using dual coil atomizers, things get a bit more confusing. Dual coil atties consist of two coils configured in parallel, which means that a 2.1Ω atty is really two 4.2Ω coils--so you have to calculate your wattage based on the 4.2Ω number--not 2.1Ω--roughly. Dual coil atties require more wattage than singles, but not quite twice as much. They produce more vapor due to increased surface. I usually increase the power (wattage) by ~50% when using dual coils; for example, if I like 6 watts with a single coil atty, I start at 8-9 watts with a dual coil atty. That's just my preference--YMMV. When in doubt--start low and adjust up as needed.

If you are interested in high wattage (and/or sub-ohm)vaping, that's a different conversation altogether--and not my area of expertise. :)

Experiment and you'll find your own bliss in no time!

The chart below is a good guide to safe vaping, even though some think it's a bit conservative.

My daughter and I use the original Evod (single coil) tanks, and the Kanger single coils that fit those will also fit the Protank 2 as well as the Protank 2 Mini. We like the vape from the 1.8 or 2.2 ohm Kanger single coils, but have recently started using the 2.2 ohm coils exclusively. We tend to prefer sweet, creamy, custard, or bakery flavors. We are using the basic Evod 650 mah batteries, which are non-variable.

When you are ordering/buying coils, make sure that they are the single coils for the Evod, Protank 2, or Protank 2 Mini. The Evod 2 and Evod Glass use dual coils, which will not work with the original Evod, Protank 2, or the Protank 2 Mini.

Thanks, everyone! I suppose I am trying to make things harder than they need to be lol. Time to relax a bit and just enjoy the vape, huh? :)

Edited to add that I know I'm a newbie when my autocorrect keeps changing "vape" to "cape" LOL

Hehe - yep - it does that to me, too :)

You know you've been vaping too long when you can't figure out why the car door won't unlock ...

... and then you realize you've been clicking the fire button on your mod instead of the unlock button on the car key
