Ex Smoker and I don't want to start smoking real cigs again

I'm almost two years free of a 25 year smoking habit of an average pack a day, and very happy about that. Unfortunately I'm back at the impass where I am just aching to have a cigarette for one minute then can't possibly allow myself to start smoking again, especially now that I have a son. A few years ago I bought one of the Gamucci brand units out of curiosity and thought it was cool until one day I inhalled and had a horrific chemically burn taste in my mouth that I had to keep rinsing with water for a while to get out. I actually got scared that I had inhaled some battery acid or something. Needless to say I am ok, but I threw that out after that experinec ($80). So now my big question is I don't want to go back to cigarettes, but I was considering trying E-cigsd again, but with 0 nicotine since I believe that I miss the action and flavor of smoking. I must be over the nicotine part by now. What do you all think, is it stupid to go back and try a 0 nic E-cig. I've gone back and forth about trying the Green smoke unit. Thoughts or advice from anyone else who quit real cigs for a while and decided top go back to Ecigs with no nicotine instead? Sorry for the long post!!

If you feel that its either cigarettes or E-cigs, then definitely go with the E-cigs. If you can possibly do it, stay off both.

And do not go the Greensmoke route. You will probably have about the same experience you had with the Gamucci, only it may cost your more.

E-cigs have come a long way in the last 2 years. The best starter kits now (IMHO) are either the Ego or the Riva 510. These are the ones with the Sharpie sized batteries. If you want a slimmer, more conventional style but less battery life, try the Joye 510 or a KR808-1D.

Both these kits can be had for $50.00 or less for two complete E-cigs, charger, and a couple of atomizers. Check them out at Liberty-flights.com and click on the 20% discount button at the top of the page before you make a selection.

Then all you need is some juice. Many have recommended buying E-juice elsewhere tho. I personally have never tried LF juices.

I have never been in your situation but I would say that it seems like it would help with the psychological part of the cravings without getting you physically addicted again which is probably good if you think that if you don't have an alternative you may go back to smoking regular cigarettes. if you do decide to give e-cigs a try take a look around the forums and look at some suggestions for what to purchase, or just give us some info about what you would mostly be looking for (battery life/size/ease of use) and we can make some suggestions on what to take a look at. The green smoke isn't a bad unit but its fairly expensive and replacement parts(such as cartomizers) will be more difficult to find and more expensive to purchase. hope I helped a little bit.

Pure Smoker has a 510 kit for $34.99

iVape has a 510 kit with a personal charge case for $34.99

Get some cartomizers to go with it and some really good quality juice in zero nicotine. There are tons of good juice vendors out there. I purchased 0 nicotine tobacco flavored juice for someone from Backwoods Brew. No TH to speak of but the taste was identical to the nicotine juice.

1. I'm not a doctor
2. I'm not promoting the use of E-Cigs if you don't really need them.

But having said that, I have done some research on what nicotine does to the brain, how it affects (actually sort of hijacks) the brains' neurotransmitters and alters information flow.

Everyone is not built the same, so I'm sure different people have differing levels of dependance on nicotine and some can break it easier than others, but it is not a weakness, your brain is craving something it once enjoyed mightily, and the brain never forgets.

To the chemical taste that freaked you out, that could have been just vaping a dry cartridge and getting an atomizer hit or something along those lines, that's nothing to be concerned about really once you know what it is and how to avoid it.

So, I understand how after 25 years the brain can still send out those craving signals, and if you need to satiate them, far better to do it with an E-Cig than a real analog.

But doing either one can possibly re-establish the nicotine dependancy urge much stronger than you probably have it right now, just something to think about.

If you've been off cigs for some time, but still have a yearning for the ritual, I'd probably skip manual batteries, and/or bigger batteries (like Rivas or eGos). For convenience I'd look at KR808D-1 automatics, with pre-filled 0mg cartomizers, though blank cartomizers plus some liquid from places like backwoods brew, kickbassvapors, etc. is certainly a solid path, too.

A basic kit with two batteries (either standard or XL/mega -- you aren't coming off of currently smoking PAD), charger, initial 5 cartomizers runs about $50, places like vapor4life (V4L constantly runs sales, current one ending today is SMILIN12 12% off and FREESHIPPINGUS if your total order is $50 or more). I've also had good experience with 808 kits from NHaler (SAVEINNJ coupon), and product from vaporsetc (I believe VAPEZONE, could be wrong).

The KR808D-1 gives a wider choice of prefilled cartomizers than a 510, and if you are just picking it up for occasional use there's no need to go to bigger batteries or manuals. (the Riva kits from LF are indeed lower priced than many 808 kits).

Good luck!

I really appreciate the recommendations. I completely agree with the fact that using neither e-cig or analog would probably be best, even a 0 nicotine e-cig could make me want more. In the sense of use, I really want a smaller unit and don't need high capacity or anything like that. I want simple and small and easy to use (I would prefer if it looked like a regular cig). I know that there is a ton of bogus review/recommendation websites, so that is why I came here and appreciate the input. What I am most concerned about is ordering 0 nicotine and getting something with it (I most definitely had a very very strong addiction to nicotine, and I'm not even sure if my brain has completely rewired itself yet since quitting), so a reliable source is what would be most important to me. The reason I guess that I gravitated to green smoke was that it looked small and simple and didn't require filling it with liquid etc... and obviously has a very happy/safe looking website and reviews. Thanks again for all the input, I'll take a look at the the Joye 510 or a KR808-1D. Any other recommedations for small and simple two piece units (similar to the green smoke unit)?

They are similar to the Green smoke. The 510 or KR808 refers to the battery. Some just have brand names (and cost more) but they're the same unit.

I'd be more comfortable order juice from a juice vendor that makes the juice as opposed to prefilled cartos. I don't know how they fill the cartos (some by hand, some use machines) so there may be a possibility of some nicotine in the carto. I'm not saying that happens, but I guess it could happen. The only way to be 100% sure I guess would be to make your own juice if you're up for a little DIY.

I second Marks suggestion. 808 with 0 nic cartomizers..or buy blanks and fill them with 0 nic yourself. Feel like smoking, but no "smoke" or nicotine. Should do you well.

I went from one high price e cig to these folks : Revolvercig.com
They have a nice two piece (carto and battery kit) Ion Cartomizer Starter Kit (Tobacco Red) - Ion Series - Starter Kits which is $59.99
You can also choose battery type (automatic or manual) and buy refill cartos way cheaper than the brands you described. And they have great customer service. Just my recommendation.:vapor:

I wouldn't mess with them if you don't want to revive your addiction. You will end up using nicotine again when the 0 nic doesn't give you what you want. I quit smoking once for ten years and once for five. It gets harder to quit again the second or third time. I was finally diagnosed with COPD about five years ago and began to struggle to quit again but was unable to do so until I started vaping and now I've been off cigarettes for 18 months. Vaping is a million times better than smoking but doing neither is better. Just don't go back to cigarettes whatever you do!
If you do get one get the volt.

Hi, If I do end up ordering it, I guess it's better than having even one real cig!! Which one is the Volt and where can I find it? is it another version kr808-d1? Are they all sort of selling the same thing. I appreciate all the different places that have been recommended. Having COPD, have you had any adverse reaction to inhaling PG? I'm also wondering if NYC will ban Ecigs so I'm being proactively lazy to order one in case they do end up banned. Thanks again everyone. PS, By the way, what is the difference between a manual and automatic battery?

One of my friends quit for a year, was miserable the entire time, and was about to start smoking again. We both started vaping at the same time without knowing the other had started - she bought a Riva and many 5 ml bottles of different flavors in 6 mg, and she only uses it with cartridges when she's having a rough time.

I just talked to her today and she said that she often forgets if she's charged her battery, but it doesn't matter because she can hold off until it's charged, and then she might vape for an hour, and then it might be several days before she does it again.

If you feel like you are absolutely going to cave soon and are going to break down and buy a pack of cigs. Then I absolutely suggest getting an e-cig instead. Maybe think about a disposable unit, use that when the cravings really kick in and if you continue to get the urges just as regularly then think about buying a real unit. Something like a 510 or an ego. I would suggest using a clearomizer to really bring out the flavor of your juices. I get mine from gotvapes but there are plenty of other venders with clearomizers. the ce2 kind not the clear cartomizers with the polyfill. tho they're pretty good too.

    in a cave, eh?
Manual battery requires you press a button to fire the battery when you inhale. In general, you get more control over the vape with a manual battery. Manual batteries are sealed, so it's safe to drip (i.e. test a couple of drops of your juice directly on your atomizer before you fill your cart, or just to get a stronger vapour and flavour).

With an automatic battery, you just inhale to start vaping. However, you may need to inhale longer to get the flavour and vapour you want.

The Volt comes from SmokelessImage. It's a KR808D-1, so you can always shop around for a deal you like.

Regarding the juice: finding a 70/30 PG -> VG blend is probably a good way to start. Just get yourself blank cartomizers with your system and then shop around for your juice. I have no experience with COPD, so that may be another question for txtumbleweed.

I actually saw a pack of disposable ones being sold in a local NYC cigarette shop and was surprised. Only issu I have with that is that I don't want to re-introduce nicotine into the mix. It would probably be very unlikely that they have 0 nicotine disposables.
