I know you want to sound smart, but it is literally correct. In a colloquial statement, "average" can in fact mean the median, mean, mode, or another non-mathematical value. This is literally indicated to be colloquial by the use of the word "saying." So the creator of the saying actually guaranteed its literal correctness by context.

It was George Carlin, actually. One of his priceless bits.

Hair dryers now are required to come equipped with GFCI protection which will actually protect people who do use the dryer in the tub.

I used to be a staunch advocate of not blaming cloud chasing for the ills of vaping, but over time my attitude is changing on that. People aren't taking the right lessons from cloud chasing anymore. It used to be a gateway to education and enthusiasm. Now it's an outlet for ".... you." With the advent of safer high-power devices, I see no reason for unregulated devices to even be encouraged to be made. Yeah something with no safety features is smaller and perhaps cooler looking, but that doesn't justify unsafe devices.

That said, I kind of think cloud chasing is not long for vaping. It's kind of pointless and eventually competitions will become impossible to judge as it will be common for devices to be able to safely generate way more vapor than anyone could inhale. It will come down to lung capacity, and that has no relevance to the industry.

I agree on the shift in rebuilding, I'm not happy about it but I just don't feel shunning and attacking is the answer. I guess it just comes down to personal philosophy like most everything.

Now something that I would like to see as far as a cloud competition is who can make the most vapor for a given wattage. That's a competition of efficiency, which actually has some value to the wider community, and seems like something that would still be fun to be involved with but register far higher on the safety scales.

I don't see a skull... if I see anything, it's sort of like the profile of a raven; the central blackest mark, his eye.

Andria

To the right of that central blackest mark is a second, lighter circle for its left eye. "Southeast" of the central black mark is its nose. Lighter marks outline the skull. I know you don't drinks (kudos to you for that) but having one under my belt and cleaning my glasses helped me see it. :D

Yes, but this was a contest put on, and I assume approved by vape blast. It appears the idiocy is coming from the top down.

I already pointed that out in a topic a while ago, look on youtube, all these vendors having cloud blowing contests, etc.

There are a lot more incidents with egos but they aren't as much fun to call bombs.

I TRIED to blow up a genuine Joyetech C battery. Pretty much.....you can't. It is very safe.

If you are talking cheapo knockoffs, then maybe. I can't speak to that because the few clones I had fell apart during the first week so ...

Wait until this happens on a crowded city subway or bus... Just think about the litigious nightmare this becomes should an innocent bystander get injured.

I would think the nightmare would be an innocent bystander being injured...............................litigious or not.

If they are going to have these cloud chasing contest at the least they should have some safety rules and someone inspecting these idiots mods to make sure they comply.

The event mission is to bring awareness, education and promote responsible vaping in our community.

Maybe everybody needs to get on the same page. Or, any page at all.

To be fair, it is true that Egos catch fire or explode in higher numbers than most any other PV, however the size and construction of Egos mean that most of the risk is fire risk, the explosion risk is far less than in a screw-together PV. Egos have pressed-in end caps that pop off fairly easily and prevent the tube from being a closed pressure container.

someone who packed an APV in their luggage which, it would appear, was packed loaded with a battery and most likely unlocked. The end result is that somehow it "burned" a hole in the luggage before it was loaded on the plane.

I didn't see that story. I'm glad the pilots and passengers were all okay.....and that it happened before it was loaded into the cargo area beneath the aircraft.

Having a fire in your cargo hold, while in the air, is a pretty serious emergency.

Did it say whether the culprit was fined by the FAA, etc.?

Maybe we should for once get ahead of the media. When they put a picture of this out, respond with a car wreck, a cellphone melt, a guy shooting the rapids, house fire due to an electrical short, candles, kerocene heater, etc. Anymore examples? :D

Instead of doing the right thing, in other words. Like the people running the contests to admit they overlooked inspecting the mods of the participants to make sure of safety, etc. Like having broad shoulders and being accountable, for an event whose purpose was to promote safe vaping according to their blurb about the meet.

When an apology is owed, then give one. STEP UP.

Don't make excuses and / or try to change the subject.

Go watch the big guys, who truly had broad shoulders and some actual humility, said after the Challenger exploded. they weren't thinking about themselves. They were truly accountable type men. The proper thing to do when you F up is to say you did. And then talk about what protocols you'll have in place nextt time, and that you've learned something.

Otherwise, it makes this industry just looks like a bunch of teflon types.

This is certainly the worst explosion I have heard of since the run of stacked RCR123 cell issues a few years back. The cloud comps and such should be a fun part of a meet for those interested, but it does come at a greater risk everyday since not everyone is taught safety before walking out the door with a mech and rebuildable.

I had JUST left, but I talked to people who were there, the next day.

I deliberately did NOT post anything about this, but now that there's a thread anyway. Here are some things I heard:
1. The particular mod type he had is vented but poorly. It was a clone, but the mod it is a clone OF is insufficiently vented for battery size.

2. The magnetic switch might have been done wrong somehow. It started firing in his pocket, got hot, he pulled it out, it burned his hand so he dropped it, then it sparked when it hit the ground and rocketed through the ceiling tile. By the next day the ceiling tile had been replaced and the floor was clean. The guy ran (not walked!) out the door immediately. Nobody was hurt but everybody was surprised nobody was hurt.

3. Some very influential folks in the community are considering asking event organizers to begin events with a battery safety class, and forbid vendors opening for business until the class is over. There is talk of encouraging donations to swag bags for battery-safety attendees, but I don't know if that will work out.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I do not believe this guy was participating in the competition.

Mech mods are more popular than ever..I doubt they go away any time soon. Maybe never because they are so easy to use. I know I'll always use them because I don't like regulated devices. Not everyone buys the rip offs or removes the lock ring on a fire switch. Plenty of VV mod users are ball bags too I would imagine.
