It still did not explode. Here is my best extrapolation of what he said. When there is a shuttle launch, all these people meet and decide if it should. Nearly all of them said no, they should not fly that day due to the temperature outside. They had failure of the O-rings at even higher temps. Two people walked out and actually quit.
As well, there was a huge wind shear, and that is ultimately what did in the shuttle. In cold temps, the O-rings harden, and do not stay pliable, as they should.
The O-rings started to leak, causing the flame from the srb to brake a strut, which sits at the bottom of the structure. This broken strut was forced into the tank, as they went through the wind shear{the worse wind shear a shuttle had ever experienced} This caused a hole in the tank, which just got bigger and bigger, causing it to fail and come apart.
In the transcripts they never actually say that the members of the crew were still alive, but you can deduce this by reading. My husband is pretty certain five of the seven were still alive when they hit the water.
here's a brief timeline of events{you will see it is written that there were some "explosive events" in the timeline, but ultimately the shuttle came apart, it did not explode} This is not the full transcript.

I saw it as it occurred, and it sure looked like an explosion to me, but from what you're saying, the explosion was the *result* not the cause.

Holy thread jack batman.

Wonder what people new to this thread think if the first posts they see are on the last couple of pages. Whether it was an actual explosion or just hot gases. Stuff flying at 200mph+. Arguing about how many where killed by the initial shockwave and how many lived to drown in the aftermath.

OMG...they dripped enough juice that people drowned in it in the aftermath!!!

I reported the first, and MAY report this as well -- this time he's using stacked batteries: 0.12 dual quad flat ribbon wire stacked batteries.

I've always heard this is a "no-no". However, it looks like he is using a 26xxx size mod, and I am not familiar with the batteries available for this size mod.

Well the vid is gone now. Says it violates YouTube's TOS due to harmful activities.

That guy is just purely out of his mind and those people don't get offended ;)

Holding a mod with a rag because of the heat literally made my jaw drop, I thought it was some kind of joke video or something at first. He ignored several severe warning signs of impending danger, his other vids show this isn't the first time he's vented batteries either. That guy just disturbed me in a really strange way... not just because of his antics. Seems like an addict or a psychopath.

I got the super creep vibe from him too. Even worse when I watched some of that video with the volume and heard the dude talk.

Actually, in my mind there is an important parallel. Politicians thought that consensus between them (see "echo chamber") would trump physics and science, and pushed hard for the launch to go ahead anyway. They still think that way. They don't get it that science is NOT something that can be decided by picking your favorite scientist to believe, or voting, or ANYTHING short of replacing God in a coup. They don't typically have ONE person on their staff who knows differently. I've even seen VAPERS post that the science does not matter because you can pick which scientists to believe. I always felt like saying "Tell that to the Challenger crew." It is true, however, that science does not win political arguments for this very reason which is why we need to keep telling our very human stories to politicians, they understand human stories. But as a scientist's daughter and an engineer, this drives me nuts.

I feel exactly like this when faced with one of those nutjobs who really think the earth is about 6,000 yrs old.

I've been following this thread since it began. And I still can't believe how bone headed some ppl can be about their coils and set ups. I hang out in several vape shops and some of the stuff I see in them kills me. I do what I can to properly educate a user. But in the end you can't fix stupid. Personally, I don't go below a .19 build on my sony batteries. I do alright on blowing clouds but it never fails. I talk to a "new" guy they see my clouds and want to do better. next time I see them they are running at a .0X just to blow the clouds not knowing the entire setup makes the difference. So in the end the mind of the new vaper is lower ohms bigger clouds which everyone that is experienced knows is not the case.

Again, you can't fix stupid no matter how much you try to explain the intricacies of a solid build to perform the way that you want it to.

Just in the New Members forum there will be ppl saying a shop sold them a mech with a sub ohm coil and they have no idea what to do next. They saw a video about sub ohming, went to the counter and asked for it like they had just seen an ad for toliet paper. Clueless. Every video can stress safety, blah, blah, blah and it's not going to sink. To some extent it's because were used to being lied to and warnings are overly cautious; just look at the side effects from most prescriptions that are worse than the disease being treated. But on the other hand, there is a responsibily of the vendor not to sell something beyond a customer's capacity when possible (and it's not always).

From what I understand this person made an oops in that he drilled the mod without cleaning all the metal shavings out before putting his battery in. That's right up there with throwing a battery into a pocket with keys.

Every sport / hobby has it's extremists and we all benefit because they are the ones usually in front with the most aggressive, efficient designs that eventually are filtered down to the masses. A lot of car safety and performance advances are learned from NASCAR, as an example. But it doesn't mean that everyone should be a race car driver or sub ohm. The entire community is at fault for pushing mech's and rebuildables as "the only way to go". No it's not. In fact a good share of mainstream vapers should probably never touch the stuff since they don't have the time, focus / interest to deal with it safely.

All the cloud contests at events like this I'm aware of have had strict rules around safety. I'd be surprised this was any different.

I think it's great that this news is grabbing so much of our attention. Worldwide.

It really does show that the vaping community cares deeply about safety and our public image. Ripples of this event, I have no doubt, will go long way in safety awareness in our community, to all the good, bad and the ugly.

Positive things can come out of bad circumstances. It's just a case of grabbing the bull by the horns early. This forum is doing that, as are other forums and I would imagine vaping conversations everywhere.

It 'may' not have been a bad thing what happened if those who need to, learn from this news.
