I think there's a difference between a "smart" person, and a person that follows the scientific method and knows how to assess and reduce risk when performing experiments.

You can be the smartest guy on earth but if you don't have a clue about basic math, logic, and the scientific method, you aren't likely to research something properly before you do it.

And even if you DO, you still have to have the motivation and patience to actually do it properly.

Unfortunately, here in the Americas, smarts AND science degrees are both in short supply.

One of the reasons we have regulation is that if everybody had to research everything they bought and did, they could not do their day jobs and our productivity would suck. I barely have time to research the really big purchases and my ecig purchases. And when I started I didn't know I'd need to be careful with ecig purchases.

That... And because not everyone has a Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry in their back Bedroom.

The guy's been beating the "this is ANTZ ammo" drum since the start of the thread. I might be inclined to agree if there were any evidence of ANTZ picking it up, but this being an actual, real danger involved in vaping, of course the ANTZ don't care, they are more interested in false claims of harm to kids.

@Fathertime: No need for a nanny state. There has been plenty of good conversation on important matters in this thread. If it keeps going so be it.

I don't often agree with the dr, but I have to agree that this is a real danger involving a small but rapidly growing segment of our community. I'd rather see us talking openly about this subject, rather than sweeping it under the rug and pretend it doesn't exist.

The point is some people are using unsafe setups, either unknowingly because of ignorance, or because of a stubborn belief that "it will never happen to me". Pushing batteries past their specifications, modifying mods for whatever reason, and using mods with inadequate venting will bring them closer to Murphy's Law than the rest of us.

The fact that this incident actually happened and could have injured innocent bystanders needs to be discussed. I believe as responsible vapers, we owe it to them and ourselves to promote education on safety. If this saves at least one person from a catastrophic accident, then we have done a great favor for at least one.

My husband and I, both with IQs above 145, have one child. We knew a couple in Michigan whose COMBINED IQ probably wasn't 145 -- who had 5 children.

Since reproductive success is the ultimate goal of all biological existence, I could argue that maybe women with higher IQs are actually making pretty dumb reproductive choices.

The couple with 5 children may very well have progeny that makes the world a better place.

I've known some pathological liars, and people I taught in jail when I was teaching, who had very high IQs. IQ doesn't indicate the kind of person you turn out to be.

I submit that I get tired of reading posts about how dumb people are, esp. since we all do dumb stuff.

I've read enough dumb stuff on this forum, including from myself, (mistakes in vaping, using equipment, etc.)

Having a cloud contest, without rules and safety meaures, is AT LEAST as dumb as blowing up a battery.

Yet, I somehow suspect that neither the contest officials, or the guy who blew up the battery, are truly "dumb"......as a matter of fact, I bet they are all pretty normal people w/normal IQs, who are just not fully educated in certain *areas*, or perhaps, just didn't think things through before they acted.

I think everyone does that on occassion. :)

Looking back over my life, I can honestly say that the truly DUMBEST thing I ever did was pick up a cigarette. I'm guessing there are a lot of other dummies here, in that respect. :)
