Ideas please...

Local vendor is going to set-up a booth in the vicinity of local tobacco shop. The vendor would like to offer information pamphlets and handouts about pvs, smokeless tobacco, and harm reduction in general.

To help build a better pamphlet(s),

what gem(s) (fact(s) with source(s)) would you offer to be included in such a document(s)?

Assuming that you want to write a Tobacco Harm Reduction brochure....

There is an excellent list of resources here:

Bibliography. (tobaccoharmreduction.org)

Off the top of my head, you need to start out by pointing out that it isn't the nicotine, it's the delivery method, that causes the diseases related to smoking.

You need a discussion then of nicotine safety & toxicity. Nicotine and addiction. (tobaccoharmreduction.org) and Casaa.org - Harm Reduction

Then the concept of tobacco harm reduction, replacing the harmful delivery method, smoking with less hazardous sources. This is a very long document, but one way to effeciently use it is to open up the Bookmarks panel in the PDF, and then zip around reading the Conclusions section for each chapter. http://www.tobaccoprogram.org/pdf/4fc74817-64c5-4105-951e-38239b09c5db.pdf

Less hazardous nicotine sources are divided into three categories: pharmaceutical nicotine used long term, modern smokeless tobacco products (snus and the dissolvable orbs, strips, and sticks) and vaporized nicotine. Casaa.org - Harm Reduction

This paper contains an excellent list of references regarding the safety of various alternatives: http://www.harmreductionjournal.com/content/pdf/1477-7517-8-21.pdf

You might want to end with a brief discussion of how the public health people have become so entrenched in a desire to defeat the tobacco industry that they have lost sight of the true goal: protecting the health of the public.

Most doctors don't even know the true facts about the safety of products such as snus, because the research results are buried in medical journals that the average practioner doesn't read. Until organizations that doctors look to for information start telling the truth, this ignorance will continue. So will the diseases and deaths related to smoking.

What about those product warnings on smokeless products?

yeah, and maybe not so much, druid...

It was over a year after my son approached me with info on pvs that I was ready to hear, then, I wanted to hear (read) everything! People buy tabloids because of the cover headlines (or flip through them waiting to check-out).

Some folks respond to: "Bargain" and others to "Everything Must Go!" and still others to "Feed the Children"

What got your attention? An ad? A friend? A (rare) piece of printed matter?

I met Dr. Rodu in person early in 2010. Several people were standing around talking and then someone said, "And here's Brad Rodu." Without thinking, I turned arond and gushed, "The Brad Rodu?" I think he was more embarrassed than I was, but he later told me that he was flattered.

I definely am a fan of his. I like the way his mind works.

Another thing you'll want to have on hand are the ingredients for e-liquid, it seems the new mantra is "we don't know what's in them". And it really hacks them off when someone shows them.

You're exactly right, Druid. My experience has been the same. I started using View attachment chemicals-in-smoke.pdf (for smokers only) for that very reason.

Thulium, just so you know...

I completely stole your entry (#8) on this Heilig thread. I gave it the heading "Will the Next Public Health Regulations Look Like This?" I made a few small modifications to fit our region, but it's pretty much all your work. So, you've been infringed upon. I'm not taking credit, but I'm not citing you either. I'll happily cite you as the creator with info.

Thank You!!!

I just want to add, have some ECF cards too. I don't know if some of the hurdles I came acrossed in the first month could have been overcome without the helpful people here. I would hate to have them be won over by facts and then go back to smoking over taste/equipment issues.

Thanks, Bells! Yes, I always have cards!

It was 120-degrees here today (okay, that's a bit of an exaggeration, but still), so I was only down there a very short time. Never set-up, but still had the opportunity to talk to a few people. Store employee and I chatted for a few...

Her father was diagnosed with lung cancer last October and given a few weeks to live (decades smoker). Had lung removed in November and is doing fine. She made the point that he could never "just quit; no matter what." I asked if he ever considered smokeless. Her response, "Well, it's just as bad, isn't it?" Yeah, we chatted a bit lol. One thing I left with her was this Brad Rodu blog entry View attachment rodu-st-truth-about-fed-warnings.pdf. (with author's permission)

Talked with a gentleman. He's quite sick and still smoking. Again, not informed there are safer choices. He was fascinated with my pvs. He's sure he can quit altogether if his wife can find something she likes (he pointed to my 510-tank). She's already done the patch and gum. Same ol' same ol.' Yeah, we'll be visiting again (including his wife).

Those were the results of starting a conversation with 2 people -- I was in a rush. Two victims (4 if including the father & wife) of all the misinformation/propaganda machine(s). Seeing things like this continuously help me understand why so many have such a stringent belief in an ultimate judgment!
