Fairly new to vaping. I said I was all set with equipment and liquids, but.......deeper down the rabbit hole.

Right after joining this forum only a few days ago (I am new to vaping - a little over a week now), after reading through some threads I was warned. I'll always want more than I have. My nephew also warned me about this (he's into vaping big time).

I have my Volcano Inferno tank which I'm happy with. But yesterday I got to thinking. Maybe I want two flavors in rotation at the same time. Well, the only way to do this is buy another tank/cartomizer/tip. Then I can easily swap without having flavor bleed over. At this point I was going to swap flavors when the cartomizer burnt out and was ready for a change, but now....

I was warned. I am going deeper into the rabbit hole, and it's only been a little over a week. I am in trouble.

Don't drink the tea! J/K It's only natural to want but not unreasonable to find self control. Having extra carto's or tanks is a far cry from ordering every conceivable device. And there are some folks on here that have (lots of devices). If you are currently happy with what you're using order replacement(back-ups) and sit back and enjoy. I know I am:). I know I have spent less than $400 on devices in 3 yrs. Good luck, remember two things the grass is not always greener and the shiny wears off. JMHO

You seem to be indicating that just having the bare essentials in your setup is enough to get by. More experienced vapors have learned to have backups. And backups for those backups.

Vaping is more involved than simply smoking was. It requires pre-planning and changing some aspects in your daily lifestyle, almost to the point of OCD. You won't be able to vape if you don't have charged batteries available to you. You won't be able to vape if you only have one juice delivery device and it stops working. You won't be able to vape if you run out of e-liquid. Have backups for your backups.

It's too far easy to pick up some smokes from the corner store or grocery should you run out of e-cig supplies. Don't set yourself up for a potential setback.

Having said that, I'm of the belief that having an occassional analog breaks no rules if you feel that you absolutely need one. More than likely you won't enjoy it after a few days of vaping exclusively. We have a saying here, "It's not the number of smokes you have that count, it's the number of smokes you didn't."

Welcome to the forum, metalmancpa! +1 on everyone's recommendation to have at least one backup set of equipment and e-liquid. +10 on the "backups for your backup." Having sufficient backups isn't the same as being struck with "shinyitis," where you are compelled to get each and every shiny new mod or tank that comes out.

Sounds like you have a reasonably prudent attitude to vaping. We already know you're intelligent and discerning, because you switched to ecigs and joined ECF!

Happy vaping! :vapor:  :vapor:

Just as everyone else has said backups are the key. I was introduced to vaping 3 1/2 years ago, spent well over $200 to get my feet wet *shakes fist at very pretty GLV mini* I vaped for two straight months with no ciggs, used my last carto and proceeded to go right back to tobacco because it was more convienient than driving 20 miles to the vape shop or waiting x amount of days for a shipment. That lasted for over a year, looking back on it now makes me feel like a lazy bum. Don't make the same mistake as I did.

Good luck in your endeavors!

tl:dr remember the 5 P's (proper, preparation, prevents, poor, performance) :)

There ARE people on ECF who wouldn't think twice about hooking someone up with some emergency supplies if needed. That karma thing works and just a simple post is all it would take sometimes. Otherwise the OCD thing is important having backups of the backups. Even going so far as to having a plan for if the electricity goes out for an extended period and batteries need charging (car charger).

The advantage to having extra atomizers/tanks/cartomizers enables different flavors to be in rotation, or perhaps one setup is best for at your desk, and another is better for a road trip. But of course in a pinch the desk unit could be used in the car. You get the idea...

Like has already been pointed out, backups are considered essential. You don't want to caught without something to vape in case your battery or juice delivery system goes wonky, (technical term for not working right), and rotating juices can help keep you from suffering taste burnout, (technical term for nothing taste good).

Me, I might go a little overboard, I keep 7 devices with different toppers, and filled with anywhere from 4 to 7 different juices ready to go. I also have several other toppers cleaned and ready to be pressed into service at any given time. If you start to do this, you may be obsessed, or just a little over prepared.

I also have several different dripping style atties, for those moments when I just want a change from the other half dozen things.

gotta have 2 batteries minimum. one is charging while you use the other.

I have just 6 delivery devices; 4 EVODs, a protank, and a little dripping atty for fun. but I am well covered with that. I rebuild my own coils to make it as cheap as possible. (about 9c a coil!)

i would say that i have a bare minimum amount of gear, compared to lots of folks here =) but i am happy with that i have and i am prepared for anything. there is a learning curve when starting out, you learn how much it sucks when your batt runs dry and you don't have a backup. i spent probably $150 on gear? the rest was juice... and now i am making my own.. so its costing me like $0.30 a day to vape. =) (just DONT buy smokes, buy a disposable if you have to!)

so don't worry, once you get everything you need, the costs decrease dramatically. make your initial hardware purchase, then set yourself a budget (mine was $25 every 2 weeks), and you cant help but save compared to what you would have spent on smokes.

But the grass looked greener before I jumped the fence. I always have stainless steel and brass cleaner. I want the shiniest pv that blinds people with its brilliance! Also the shiny lures in all the smokers to ask what it is and I can try to convert a few.

Other than a 2nd tank, I'm also thinking about getting an atomizer for dripping. That will be a lot easier to get in my fix for other flavors on a pinch.

And as a side note, I have never smoked analog cigarettes. I decided to get into vaping as an alternative to mid meal snacking etc. Vaping a good flavor is satisfying, plus I personally like the "coolness" factor of a neat looking piece of equipment (I am a geek).

Fasttech has TONS of good drippers for the 5-10 dollar range. Id also get a few rolls of kanthal a1 in 28-29-30 ga from ebay. If you find yourself a fan of dripping and the pure flavor it provides, id go all out and purchase a reo. Its good enough of a device that i GAVE AWAY all my other devises and delivery systems. Reo grands, and reomizer2's on top are the only thing i can vape happily now and has made all my other high end vape gear obsolete.
Whatever route you take- do not go back to stinkies. Congrats on being smoke-free dude

In the year that I've been vaping I've gone from V2's to Ego's to Ego twists to a Lavatube to a Vamo V.2 to a second Vamo V.2. I have probably close to 100 different clearomizers, several 100 replacement heads for my clearomizers and probably 600ml of storebought juice. Hehe, not bad considering that when I was a smoker I left the house every day for work with 3 packs of cigarettes (1 that I was smoking and 2 'backups') and 3 lighters. I've always had an .... retentive fear of running out when I'm out and about...

Most of us I think tend to get buy happy early on trying out all the different shiny things out there, but after a while it kind of tapers off. You really can vape cheaply if you don't feel the need to buy every new thing that comes out. If you want to do the hobby thing without spending a fortune, you could DIY your juice which with 0 Mg would be dirt cheap. You could also look into modding and/or RBAs, which essentially gives you infinite backups. In four years of vaping I've only bought two mods, a Janty stick when I first started that lasted about six months and a Vmod XL last month. In between I used mods I built myself. Total investment about $200

It all starts out simple enough... a little cig-a-like, or perhaps something a little strong like an ego or a C-Twist...Then perhaps a spare... oh.. wait.. if I get another delivery device I could rotate flavors, oops.. wait.. i should have twice as many batteries as I have clearos or cartos or drippers or (and then suddenly, you understand these terms)... Then you realize that if you get a MOD, it's easier to switch out batteries... then you discover Fast Tech, and realize that you need another.... (hey, they are only 30-40 dollars...).... then it's the juice chase... do I get MBV, or Ahlusions, or Alice in Vapeland.. then you look at Wizard Labs, or Nude Nicotine and realize you can get your juice price down to under a dollar for 30 ML if you mix it yourself. So then you read all the safety messages about DIY, and then you check out the DIY threads... then, you hear the siren song of the Provari, and want to join the Provaranti! Then you hear about REOs and squonking... and you become a REOnaut... until BAM... you wonder how you ended up where you are, surrounded by little bottles and metal tubes and glass tubes... and oh so many thing... and then you look up, and realize that it's been months since you had an analog, your car doesn't stink, and your clothes smell normal, and you can taste things again...

Oh... you have just started your journey grasshopper....
