I also don't like sweet flavors...yet. I have pretty much kept to tobacco flavors, though I have tried several sweet juices.
I started vaping on Oct 10th of this year and ordered a sample pack, all 24 mg, along with a kit, dse-801, that is where the sweet flavors came from initially. I had the opportunity to choose the 5 flavors. Among those choices was a menthol, ry4 and t 5 tobacco from myvapor store. Menthol didn't cut it for me. I did like the ry4 and the t 5 was ok, at first.
After a couple of days or so I started with some issues which later resolved themselves as a burnt wick, change in my ability to taste, and the nasty oily stuff that some new carts come with. I almost quit vaping too. I kept researching and resolved those issues and started liking the ry4. It has a nutty flavor but idoes not overpower the tobacco. It kind of reminds me of the smell of a pipe or cigar. The menthol just would not do it for me. The reason was that the atomizer had that oil, whatever it is, and it just happened to be the one I tried with the menthol. It took days, maybe a week or more before I could even bring myself to try it again. I have since finished off that 10 ml bottle and even started to enjoy it a bit.
The reason I tell you all this is because I almost went back to cigarettes mostly because I did not understand my gear well enough and I did not have a good technique. Once I understood how to use my gear things kind of fell into place. I am so glad I kept at it and I feel you will too.
A couple of questions for you. How long did you smoke, what kind of gear are you using, how much did you smoke, and what nicotine level is your juice? If you used a cart, which most kits come with, then I wouldn't be surprised if it was the coating on it which has tainted you as it did me. Did you blow it out and try to clean it before use?
Don't give up. Read about your gear, how to improve it, understand it, and your vaping technique. If you must smoke then do so, don't beat yourself up over it, but continue to experiment with your gear. You already have the gear so you might as well keep playing with it.
Like most everything else in life there is a learning curve we struggle with but when we get over that initial hump things get better and better. I kept reading about all these folks loving this and I just thought it wasn't for me. After that hump came the benefits and I became one of those folks too.
