Oh man I'm back on the dark for pipe big time. Decided to try it again but at 2% instead of 3 and at 50%PG instead of maxvg. To me, a world of difference. Way less gunking and much better flavor. The bottle I mixed won't see a full 24 hours steep...

Now my mind is running wild with possibilities. Even though it's perfect in its own. I just mixed a bottle with 2% glamour chocolate mixed in, letting that steep a bit. Anyone tried mixing Garuda or Virginia TA with it?
I found the same thing with INW Desert Ship and tobacco Symphony. At 2% to 2.5% these tobaccos became much more nuanced and likeable for me.

Yeah man I'm blown away. And after ~12 ml, zero gunk - none. Would've rewicked by now at 3% or at least been tasting some funk. Does high VG contribute to the gunk as well maybe? All I know is this is kicking some serious behind right now and I'm in heaven.

The gunk was the only reason I quit vaping it for a while, I just can't stand juices that gunk that quickly.

Danny,

Does Hangsen's Desert Ship benefit from steeping or is it good to vape straight away?

I've found all tobacco benefit from steeping some more then others. As far as DS not so much but if you add AP or sweetener or a small amount of cream to build body then for the most part do steep it a week or 2. I myself add some AP and inawera chocolate to it and that does require steeping for about 3 weeks.

I think VG might contribute to coil gunking, but I can't be sure because I like my mixes exactly the opposite as you - anywhere from 50% to 70% PG.

It's been pretty consistent for me - the darker the tobacco color, the more likelihood of coil gunking.

VG alone does not effect coil performance. What will effect it is overly sweet mixes, to much TA or net or to much sweetener added. Also I've run across a few very dark tobacco flavorings that cause it.

Always done 3.33. Maybe I'll have to try at 2 as well. ......

I usually do Inawera at 3 to 4 percent, and may try cutting back to around 2 myself. I'd guess that the higher pg levels are part of the story though. Pg tends to carry the flavors a little more crisp that vg, for me at least.

Definitely true in terms of flavor intensity. That's why I upped the PG, I wanted to keep ~the same flavor intensity but reduce gunking. I didn't realize it would make this much difference though :w00t:

I could go down to 1.5% even...may try it sometime, at least when doing a multi-flavor mix. I'm anxious though to see how the 2% Dark Pipe and 2% Glamour Chocolate turns out :thumb:

Can anybody recommend a good cigar flavor? I'm looking for a funky fermented cigar tobacco without any ash or smoke.

I recall using something from either VZ or Inawera a couple years back but can't remember what it was.

Thanks in advance. This thread has become one of the few I read daily.

You might give the SC Maxx Blend (cigar) a try with a bit of FA Liquid Amber (fermented fruit) or HS Beer.

As far as the cigar concentrates are concerned, SC Cohiba, Maxx Blend and Black n Mild are among my favs; lots of depth and very flavorful.

On the funky end of things, I guess you could play around with some HS Arabic and some cigar concentrates.

SC Virginia Flue Cured has the proper 'silage' note of a good flue cured, and no ash that I can tell. A little too much fermented for me stand a lone but it sounds like it might be right down your alley. I still love it as a mixer though.

SC Cigar is a good strong cigar type flavor with a hint of cocoa and no ash that I can tell. Not a fermented type though unless better taste buds than mine can pick it out.

SC Cohiba is a good deep broad leaf tobacco type with no ash that I can tell, but also not a fermented type that I can tell. Great stand a lone or as a mixer.

Good luck. :vapor:

SC Cohiba is one of my all time favorite cigar flavors.

@JD1

Remember way back when, when I first started this thread you said "Great idea, I hope this thread catches on"

Great thread idea and I hope it does catch on. I vape mostly tobacco flavors and now that I've finally tried some of the Inawera flavors, along with the Rustica TA, I have several mixes that I like.

I just checked and this thread ranks in 7th place in regards to the most amount of responses in the DYI forum. I can't believe the success this thread has had.

Thank you to everyone that contributed. This thread provides a wealth of information in regards to tobacco vaping.

Anyone have a good suggestion for DIY'ing a decent Camel mix? Strange, I never smoked those things in my past life but I've grown fond of a couple of pre-mixed e-liquids claiming to be them.

So far no luck with mixing the few flavors hinting at that brand. (Or even those with the one-humped critter on the label).

Yep, sure do. I was tired of getting my fingers smacked for mentioning other manufacturers in brand specific threads lol. :vapor:

So again, many thanks to you for starting it and many thanks to all who have contributed. Happy vaping. :vapor:

Yeah - this thread is why I'm back on flavors. Can't stand most flavorings out there...even getting sick of the waffle flavoring...tobaccos are all that I can vape really, and this thread led me in the right direction.

Most commercial juices are overflavored and just suck IMHO - Hangsen and INW are outstanding :headbang:

HS Turkish Blend with a bit of Virginia. You won't really find anything that tastes like the cigarette.

Haven't tried Cohiba or Maxx yet, but if cigar is what you want, SC Black n Mild is NOT it. I get almost no tobacco taste at all. It's more chocolate than anything.
