This Week in CTP - Updates from the Center for tobacco Products February is American Heart Month, and what better way to celebrate than by quitting smoking! Cigarette smoking greatly increases the risk of developing heart disease. Nearly half of adult Americans are at risk for heart disease and stroke, and over 20% are at risk due to cigarette smoking. FDA has joined the Million Hearts campaign in its goal to prevent one million heart attacks and strokes over five years. We are supporting this initiative through a number of efforts, including encouraging those already addicted to tobacco products to quit. Visit this FDA Voice blog to learn more about making heart-healthy choices in 2013. Did you know that CTP recently posted a new page to the Manufacturer section of our website regarding FDAs regulatory authority over tobacco products? Also featured on the webpage is a new email, NicotineInquiries@fda.hhs.gov, where manufacturers and other interested parties can send questions related to the regulatory authorities applicable to a particular product made or derived from tobacco. |
