Recent NY Times article on the FDA. Although the subject is primarily Avandia, I found it interesting that the FDA seems to be in disarray...and a interesting quote from everyone's favorite clown, Dr. Joshua Sharfstein:

“I think that F.D.A.’s credibility really depends on being able to explain its decisions well,” said Dr. Joshua Sharfstein, F.D.A.’s principal deputy commissioner. “We can’t expect people to think that F.D.A. has decided, therefore it’s the right answer.”

The rest here:

It is damning isn't it. There was also criticism regarding the fact that the very people who allowed the drug were the same people in charge of withdrawing it.
Can anyone say 'conflict of interest'?
The FDA are destroying all credibility they once had.
Errr, the FDA once had credibility ?? When ??

By the way, the very same GP who prescribes you a medication, would also be the very same GP who could decide against you continuing that medication - is that a conflict of interest too ?? :?:
