FDA issues Strategic Priorities
Strategic Priorities

Click on 3.3 tobacco Products, and check out the Long-Term Objectives in Table 7
Strategic Priorities: Strategic Goals and Long-Term Objectives

3.3.1 Develop and implement science-based policy, regulations, enforcement strategies, and compliance programs to protect the public health

3.3.2 Provide the public with accurate, trustworthy, and accessible information about tobacco products

It appears that FDA officials, staff and its tobacco Product Scientific Advisory Committee are now the key entities preventing the FDA from achieving these Long-Term Objectives, although CTFK, ACS, AHA, ALA, ALF will also continue opposing the achievement of these Long-Term Objectives.

There must be a rich prize awarded in government circles for Colossal Irony of the Year, of such great value that it explains why some agencies seem to work so hard to achieve it.

Anybody who knows the slightest thing about the FDA knows that science-based decision making is anathema to them, the only matter of any importance is keeping Pharma happy. Indeed the best way to predict the FDA's decisions is to see what would contradict the science best and do most harm to public health.

Even Madison Avenue would blush at these policy statements, so ridiculously in opposition to the actions taken.

Thank you, Bill, I needed a good laugh.

3.3 - ..."Because there is no known safe tobacco product" ...
... “appropriate for the protection of the public health,” rather than the “safe and effective” standards used to guide drug or device regulations.

I think they are pretty clear about their mindset and agenda regarding tobacco product use - My Translation of their statement:

Force a "quit or die" scenario as rapidly as they can get away with.

The outlook for e-cigs: Pay millions for clinical trials and be transformed into an ineffective cigarette replacement option or be wiped out along with traditional tobacco products.
