OMG! I just blew coffee all over my iPad. TOO TOO FUNNY! I am on zyban AGAIN right now. But I'm a lucky one. No side effects. Chantix on the other hand made me cry constantly. My hubby told me to smoke up and stop taking it. So now I am trying zyban and ecigs. So far not good.
I have been on Wellbutrin (same drug as Zyban) for over 20 years. I had to go on anti-depressant medication when I stopped all intake of nicotine and fell into the black pit of despair. I have never felt so horrible in my entire life. The anti-depressant took care of the worst of the dark feelings, but did not help the confusion, memory problems, dangerous inattention, and overeating at all. I kept waiting for that magical day when the "temporary" withdrawal symptoms would go away. When I finally figured out it wasn't going to come, after 6 months of this, I made a conscious choice to take up smoking again.
Before the quit, I had been a pack-a-day smoker for decades. But when I followed the surgeon general's advice to switch to lights, my intake went up to 2-1/2 packs within a matter of weeks, without my even noticing it. After my abstinence experience, I stayed on the anti-depressant medication and when I went back to smoking, I managed to stabilize at only 1-1/2 packs a day.
Back then, the only OTC nicotine replacement therapy product was the gum, nasty disgusting-tasting stuff. When they finally started producing some pleasant flavors, I was able to reduce my number of cigarettes per day to 20 by substituting gum for some, but could never get up to the recommended 8 to 10 pieces a day of gum without stomach problems.
One day I got to thinking about how switching to a "low tar and nicotine" brand had made my cigarettes per day (CPD) jump up. I wondered whether it might work in the opposite direction. So I began digging for information trying to track down a brand of cigarettes with a high nicotine content. When I found that, I managed to shave another 10 CPD. So now I was down to half a pack (plus anti-depressant, plus gum).
That's where I was when I began using an e-cigarette. But I didn't find vapor quite as satisfying as smoking. The way I finally managed to go to zero CPD was to go totally off nicotine for two days. I did this over a weekend so that I wouldn't need to worry about getting into an accident or making mistakes at work. When my two days were up, I went back to the nicotine gum plus vapor only.
I managed to stay off the cancer sticks, but I wasn't feeling 100% normal. The solution I found was to go to a higher concentration of nicotine in my liquid (24 mg/ml worked for me) and upgrade to a better quality
device.
I hope some of my history gives you some ideas that might work for you. The best of luck to you!
