OMG! I just blew coffee all over my iPad. TOO TOO FUNNY! I am on zyban AGAIN right now. But I'm a lucky one. No side effects. Chantix on the other hand made me cry constantly. My hubby told me to smoke up and stop taking it. So now I am trying zyban and ecigs. So far not good.

I have been on Wellbutrin (same drug as Zyban) for over 20 years. I had to go on anti-depressant medication when I stopped all intake of nicotine and fell into the black pit of despair. I have never felt so horrible in my entire life. The anti-depressant took care of the worst of the dark feelings, but did not help the confusion, memory problems, dangerous inattention, and overeating at all. I kept waiting for that magical day when the "temporary" withdrawal symptoms would go away. When I finally figured out it wasn't going to come, after 6 months of this, I made a conscious choice to take up smoking again.

Before the quit, I had been a pack-a-day smoker for decades. But when I followed the surgeon general's advice to switch to lights, my intake went up to 2-1/2 packs within a matter of weeks, without my even noticing it. After my abstinence experience, I stayed on the anti-depressant medication and when I went back to smoking, I managed to stabilize at only 1-1/2 packs a day.

Back then, the only OTC nicotine replacement therapy product was the gum, nasty disgusting-tasting stuff. When they finally started producing some pleasant flavors, I was able to reduce my number of cigarettes per day to 20 by substituting gum for some, but could never get up to the recommended 8 to 10 pieces a day of gum without stomach problems.

One day I got to thinking about how switching to a "low tar and nicotine" brand had made my cigarettes per day (CPD) jump up. I wondered whether it might work in the opposite direction. So I began digging for information trying to track down a brand of cigarettes with a high nicotine content. When I found that, I managed to shave another 10 CPD. So now I was down to half a pack (plus anti-depressant, plus gum).

That's where I was when I began using an e-cigarette. But I didn't find vapor quite as satisfying as smoking. The way I finally managed to go to zero CPD was to go totally off nicotine for two days. I did this over a weekend so that I wouldn't need to worry about getting into an accident or making mistakes at work. When my two days were up, I went back to the nicotine gum plus vapor only.

I managed to stay off the cancer sticks, but I wasn't feeling 100% normal. The solution I found was to go to a higher concentration of nicotine in my liquid (24 mg/ml worked for me) and upgrade to a better quality device.

I hope some of my history gives you some ideas that might work for you. The best of luck to you!

At least I've been vindicated by this ruling.

Wellbutrin worked very well for me when I took it years ago. Then the generic version came out and my insurance company switched me over to it. Within a couple of weeks, I could tell a difference. The generic did nothing for me and I went back to my 1 1/2 PAD habit.
I couldn't afford the real stuff since it costs 50x as much as the generic and my insurance refused to help at all.

When I told my new doctor this story, she said "Oh you just need a stronger dosage of the generic" but then prescribed yet another anti depressant that I'd already tried before and which didn't work either.

Discovering the world of PVs has been the best thing that I've found to quit smoking. I can do without prescriptions now.

You should post the above as a comment to the letter from the American Lung Association recommending that e-cigarettes be taken off the market. http://www.democratandchronicle.com...20021/Letter-E-cigs-have-not-been-deemed-safe

I tried. It requires Facebook though so I tried to email the author like the instructions suggested but could not find an email to do so.
(I do very limited Facebook.)

You could use this form and just copy/paste your text into the field "*Your Message".

Contact Us - American Lung Association

In fact, it would be great if about 5,000 or so of us did the same.

OK. I cleaned up my post a little and sent it with a subject line that said something like "smokers do need help". I never would have found the link without help.

Response: Thank you for taking the Contact us survey. Your input is very valuable to us in designing our program.

Right. I really don't believe that my one email will do anything other than get me on their mailing list. 1000 probably would at least get their attention.

As I poked around their site, I did wonder how much money they spend quantifying how many people smoke, where they live and what their age, race and sex are.

Why do people keep Confusing the FDA with an agency who's Primary Responsibility is the Public’s Health and Wellbeing?

Once one gets over this Misconception, articles like this don’t seem all that Out of the Ordinary.
I was just being a little sarcastic ...
:p

It's painfully obvious the FDA's responsibility
has absolutely NOTHING to do with the Public's Health
and Everything to do with protecting BP and Monsanto's profits.

They have there hands full , hopefuly will just postpone any big decisions e-cig related and things stay the same forever

The good news is with the Sequestration now in effect and the 85 billion in federal cuts triggered. I read the FDA is on the list of those cuts. So maybe in the interim they will have bigger fish to fry than E Cigs. One can hope at least.

I'm in the Habit of whenever I read Anything that our Government puts out, when they say "Your", I mentally replace it with "a Company's".

See how well it works for the FDA slogan... Protecting and Promoting a Company's Health.

BTW - Notice how the FDA is Under the HSS.

Understood ...
However, the general public views it on a personal one-on-one level

Ummm, the FDA gets a lot of their funds from CHARGING THE VENDORS (including BP) huge fees for approvals. If their budget is cut, they'll be MORE inclined to ban everything for which those fees have not been paid. (And things for which the fees HAVE been paid, but hmm, maybe they'll be more honest on THAT part in order to encourage submissions.....)

In Gov'mt, Your is slang for Corp., thats why its italicized.
