First off, I have to post this here because I guess I am too new to be able to post in the RBA forum.

So I have a kayfun Lite Plus running on a ProVari. This is my first RBA I have ever had and I am starting to get fed up with it. The main problem seems to be a tightening of draw after maybe a day (sometimes even just an hour). When I build the coil and wick it with cotton, my first few hits from it are great, but then the draw slowly becomes tighter and tighter. It is almost like there is a blockage somewhere, but I don't think that is the case as i have taken apart and cleaned everything out very well between each build. I also don't think there is any sort of blockage because it usually starts off vaping great and then the tightening draw /air blockage feeling start to appear.

I have tried all different coil types, different amounts of wick, many different configurations, and pretty much everything I can think of as a 1 year vaper. I really have no idea what to do now as this thing is really pissing me off.

So i guess my real question is, what would be causing it to vape great right after I build the coil (usually a day, sometimes less), and then the draw becomes (sometimes slowly, sometimes suddenly) tight and feels like airflow blockage.

I have drained the tank right after the draw becomes tight and looked a the coil and wick and everything looks fine in there. Nothing is restricting the hole under the coil, nothing blocking the side air hole, the airflow control is all the way out, everything looks good.

Any ideas on this? your help is much appreciated!

I wish i could help if only to say that I have noticed this too on occasion and have not found an explanation for it either. It usually goes away after a few vapes though. Maybe it's the cotton super saturated and expanded with e-juice? It does that on my cartos if they set for a few days in a tank without use.

Doesn't make sense to me either...

Yeah its very strange. I am still able to vape it and i usually get decent vapor and ok flavor, but the draw sucks and its not fun to vape. I was thinking the same thing about the cotton. But, I have tried using alot of cotton, very little cotton, medium amount of cotton and all of that and it still seems to happen. Hopefully someone has figured it out.

You may need to try less cotton. The cotton can really expand and effect the vacuum channels.
Try a silica wick and see if you have the same results.

The current setup in there now has very little cotton in it and it actually seems to be the worst setup i have built. Literally, first 2 vapes were good, then the draw got very very tight. I thought less cotton would be better.

Try less wick than you think you need, and lift the coil off the deck a little, then give that a try. If you are using cotton to wick, it swells a bit when it gets saturated and you need to account for that.

Thanks hudson_macbeth. I have used alot less cotton and it actually seems to be worse. What do i need to worry about the cotton swelling and blocking? Is it ok if the cotton swells and pretty much fills the space above the decks, but without blocking the channels?

My vote for the cause is too much cotton as well. Or when it begins to wick it expands over the air hole. Trick with any Kayfun is keep the air hole clear. When you build your coil, keep it up off the air hole about 1mm, or good rule of thumb is the bottom of the coil should be around the height of your screw heads.... and keep it clear. gently lay the cotton over and down the sides, don't shove, force, or pack it in like a madman.

I have zero problems building Ehpro or Hcigar clones using the above method using a 9 wrap 28 Micro with cotton. The fasttech clone was garbage and I refuse to use. It's now just something I use to play with when trying new coils without the tank on.

you may want to check whether or not you are stuffing the cotton into the liquid channels-which will slow and eventually block the liquid from feeding-try making sure that the cotton is sitting next to, but not jammed into those channels, the vacuum pressure will bring the juice up to the wick.

Hope that helps, and good luck! once you figure it out you will NOT be disappointed

Thanks for this Despraci. I usually have the coil up like you say, and everytime I have drained the take and looked at the setup there is nothing blocking the hole under the coil. What other airflow channel is there to worry about blocking? im just don't get what the heck is going on. I usually just lightly push the cotton down and press it against the deck walls. Should I not do that and just press it down making sure it doesnt block the channels? Seems like fluffy cotton would fill up the space above the decks really easily, especially when expanded. Does it matter if the space above the channel and deck is filled up with cotton?

I've heard stories of some people finding 2 screws in there. Have you taken it right out and had a look? Just a thought.

Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk

yeah took it all the way out, mine is only 1 screw. Is there anything up in there that might cause problems? i looked around in ecf and the web and i think some of them had some sort of green ball thing up in the airflow control hole. i looked in mine and don't see any green ball or anything. maybe newer ones dont have it?
