I have a protank that I am using with my provari, I liked it at first because it is very solidly built and attractive, but it starts to taste burnt within a day of use for reasons unknown to me. I tried dry burning following the proper procedure but it made the burnt taste worse. I even tried removing the flavor wicks as I hear people do but that made the burnt taste worse too. I need some suggestions, what is the best tank you know of with solid build quality and that is dependable? No burnt taste crap and dry burning BS... Thanks.

Gave up on mine. Way, way, way too airy draw. I need four lungs to get a hit off that thing.

once the wick (inside the wrapped coil) is burned (from user error) the taste will not go away
you have to clean it, rebuild it, or just put in a new coil...
I'll keep saying it also, the supply (flavor) wick is there to keep fluid ON THE COIL so it doesn't go dry and burn
at least that's how I feel the bcc design works (removing the supply wick compounds the burnt problem)

allowing the wick to get initial saturation - power to coil - thickness of juice - time allowed between hits
all these are factors for any wicking device

and if the ProTank has to Airy of a Draw, try putting an EVOD coil inside, it will tighten it up remarkably

:)

Interesting. Will it stiffen the draw by say 50%? That's where it's gonna have to be (at least) to work for me. Think I'll try an evod soon anyways, I'll slap an extra evod head in her and see what happens.

Weird. My two PT2's are the least airy draw of anything I have. That's one reason I like them.

Just was talking to a friend. She said she loves her six T3S's the best. Said they're not as airy a draw as her PT2. With me it's just the opposite. Can't even use my one T3S. It's so airy I can't get any vape!

best regards, larry mac

Protank is super simple to tune and Airy draw is simple to manage.

Burnt taste comes in 2 flavors:
Not enough e-liquid for heat(setting)

Temperature to LOW - liquid does not full vaporize and slowly cakes on wick/coil, eventually causing a nasty burnt taste.
This one is simple, crank the power a bit and Vape through it. A few long un-powered draws will pull clean liquid in and things start tasting right again.

Using Protank coil. Plug one hole in the 510 connection to tighten draw. Several other methods. I use a piece from a small straw that fits into the 510. This reduces air space.
Air Flow controller also works perfect and allows for adjustment of draw.
Evod coil has a thicker Base and also reduces air flow.

Thank you for putting this out there in such an easy to understand way. I have wrestled with my two Protank II's for a couple of weeks now, and this post helped me determine what I think my root cause is/was. Mine have super airy draws,( which comparatively speaking can be quite a subjective thing to describe) an I believe that this caused a lack of wicking and a buildup of cooked juice in the wicks, causing sudden dry and burned hits and subsequent failure of the heads to produce vapor due to the veritable dam present in the wicks. A toothpick tip jammed into one draw hole and snapped off greatly reduced the airiness, and the vapor immediately became richer and more flavorful. Like a night and day difference. If the heads hold up I will search for some of the "new tightened draw" bases for these and should be good to go:) Previously my heads were going scorched anywhere from 1/2 tank to 2 days vaping. I think this is because they were at the very edge of functionality from lack of negative pressure in the tank due to the very airy draw.

Burnt taste is probably the only problem that I HAVEN't had with the protank. I live in Florida, so it's quite common for the temperature on the device to instantly change from 72 degrees to 90+ when I go outside. The protank immediately starts leaking and gurgling whenever I do, I lose all vapor production as well, then returns to normal when I go back inside. The insanely airy draw can be annoying sometimes as well.

The best device I have ever used is a new product called the Aspire BDC (bottom dual coil). There is never any change in the device's perfomance regardless of the outside temperature, no leaking whatsoever, and it has both the best flavor and highest vapor production that I've experienced to date. You can get them at Nhaler.com, they're very well priced and the atomizer replacement heads work with all of the different varieties. Vivi nova tanks are interchangeable as well, so I'm using a Pyrex tank with it and it's just an incredible vape.

A pyrex tank with internal threading? Where can you get them?

I just got a 5ml Smoktech PBC from MadVapes. I've had it 3 days now and I really like it. The wick channels in the head are a tiny bit wider than the protanks and seem to allow juice to flow good. With a stock coil I was able to chain vape at 11 watts no problems. With a rebuilt coil I was able to chain vape at 12.5 watts. It's a plastic shell with a pyrex inner tank. I've had no leaks either. It vapes like a cross between protank 1 and 2. Airy but stiffer than protank 1. Hope that helps.
