Hey guys,

I just got the Protank II a couple days ago, threw in one of the atomizer heads that came with it (2.5 ohms) and it worked *wonderfully* with a Fresh Lime 50/50 flavor I have. It was terrific. Way better than the T3s's I own.

Until about an hour ago when every 3rd hit or so tasted burnt and hot... I filled up the tank fully and it continued to be an issue. I was vaping at 4.0V.

So I decided to try cleaning an atomizer head for my first time even though 2 days seemed pretty quick to be getting burnt hits and went with this dry burning method: Vapor Lady Lounge Kanger eVod, Protank, MT3, Cleaning and Burning The Atomizer for Better Vaping - YouTube

It was looking great -- I had the orange glow, the coil looked clean (despite having an almost... kerosene? smell), so I put the flavor wicks back on, the stem on top, put a drop of Fresh Lime on either side of the wicks, and reassembled it into the tank and battery.

First hit was awful. Tasted even more burnt than the hits from before. It got a bit better after a few more hits but I couldn't stand it. I decided to just swap out the atomizer head for the other one that came with the Protank II until I had more time to investigate cleaning the heads. This also proved unsuccessful. I did the same thing as I did with my dry burned atomizer: a drop of Fresh Lime on either side of the flavor wicks, and then re-assembled tank / battery.

No luck. I'm back to the burnt taste on every third hit or so.

This morning I was able to take long hits very quickly for a while without the taste getting burnt so I'm unsure why I'm having issues now -- especially because even if I had damaged the other atomizer head by doing this, this new one should be fine (I would think.)

Any suggestions welcome.

Dry burning does not restore your wicks and coil. You will always have the burnt taste on your coil if you dry burn or wash your atty. When the head goes bad, the only way to restore the flavor 100% is to toss in a new atty head. If you want to use a new flavor, you can clean the rest of your tank but keep the atty wet with the old juice and the new juice will eventually take over ONLY IF the old flavor does not contrast drastically from the new one. NEVER wash or dry an old wick. Water will ruin your coil. As far as the dry taste is concerned, that is an issue with all pro tanks. They sometimes vape really well, and other times they don't. I personally hate all protanks and prefer the iclear 30.

If dry burning and cleaning coil heads is such a bad idea, why does nearly everyone in the community do it? I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't great for the coil heads, but if the option is throwing them away or cleaning them, why not clean them? Cleaning seems to work for many people.

I also can't afford to go through a coil head every two days... and I refuse to believe that the tank "just doesn't work sometimes." There has to be a reason for it (even if it's not something that can be fixed.)

People dont want to spend $1.20 for a new head, maybe thats why. You will get rejuvinated vapor production with a dry burned head, but the flavor will be dull and burnt tasting. Better taste than a gunked up coil but nowhere near the performance of a brand new head. I personally changed my atty every 36-48 hours and i vape only about a tankful a day when i was using the protank. The stock heads really suck.
