This is completely silly. There has been little to no deception in the last forty years. That occurred in the 50's through the 70's. There has been essentially nothing in more recent decades.

The irony is that the ANTZ groups pushing this are now the deceivers. They are the ones lying about the dangers of smokeless tobacco and e-cigs, and exaggerating the dangers of second hand smoke. This is nothing more then propaganda to feed the small minds of the minions.

This federal court ruling was the result of a lengthy DOJ lawsuit that was filed by the Clinton administration against the 5 largest cigarette companies back in 1995 or 1996 (as I and others uged Clinton to file it and provided the DOJ with lots of evidence).

Below are the court ruling and several new articles. My favorite comment about the court ruling was by CTFK's Matt Myers, as it demonstrated his outrageous hypocrisy.

US Judge Gladys Kessler rules that cigarette companies in DOJ case must pay for and conduct two year "corrective statements" advertising campaign admitting past deception about health risks of smoking.

After deceiving the public to believe smokefree tobacco products are as hazardous as cigarettes, and after lobbying to ban tobacco companies from truthfully informing smokers that smokeless products are far less hazardous alternatives to cigarettes, CTFK's Matt Myers writes "the tobacco companies must be required to tell the public the truth." What a joke. Most of the "truth" the tobacco companies are being required to "confess" isn't even true or is grossly distorted or exaggerated. Not to mention the scary precedence of forcing someone to confess to something after they've already been convicted and "served their time" and the "confession" is written by the judge. Could you imagine if this was a person who was convicted of a crime and although they always claimed they were innocent, served the sentence and then a judge writes out a confession to the crime and forces the person to sign it??

Not to mention that most of the people being forced to "confess" weren't even around 40 years ago. Next let's force the auto companies to confess to blocking safety and environmental features for so many years or the drug companies to atone for the misdeeds of their snake oil-selling predecessors.

And how about that sneaky line about nicotine "changing the brain?" It completely ignores habit and lack of desire to quit. And the "no safe cigarette/no safe second hand smoke" lines. Can anyone doubt that leaves the door open for more lies about e-cigarettes with nicotine?
