Federal law hits smoke shop hard

A new federal law which classifies stores selling
roll-your-own "smokes" as cigarette manufacturers
has largely destroyed one Shelbyville business.

"We still sell tobacco, hookahs and accessories, and cigars,
hand-rolling machines, incense and electronic cigarettes."
______________

I wonder how long it will be before The Nanny State
will tell them everything they sell must be hidden from public view.

I can kind of see classifying that as a manufacturer given the point at which she said the customers bought them. What she needed to do was have the customer buy the parts and then sit down to roll their own on her machines as a gratuity.
It's the government, they live for nit picky red tape loopholes.

She needs to start selling e-cigs. Then if the government shuts that down she can claim harassment.

"One customer said her throat didn't burn and she was able to go back to running,"
That's the FSC forced on smokers by the ANTZ trying to kill them faster.
"Cigarettes are bad because of all the chemicals, let's add a fire ......ant to the mix."
I was already picky enough about harshness on my throat. FSC tore me up and were the whole reason I tried RYO.

I saw a news clip last week or so on a similar story...

To me this is no different than a fast food restaurant handing you a drink cup to go fill yourself. Is that next ?

(I know...it can't be over 16ozs.)

Well, NJ doesn't allow you to pump your own gas at a station so many people in the country have gas pumps at home.

I used to roll my own, when the fed's jacked the price on RYO tobacco up in that same highway bill, the tobacco shop started selling more "pipe" tobacco, amazingly cut just perfect for a machine and in similar flavors, but at a different tax rate ($20/Lb as opposed to $36 for 12oz.) You're absolutely right about the angles Vapeape. Hopefully they won't understand DIY e-cigarettes enough to leave some doors to waltz through like that. But yeah sound like an e-cig opportunity. I don't know if the people will buy into it, I was making my cigarettes @ $1.99 a pack and my friends still bought packs @ the store for $6 as it was too much trouble to spend 5 min. firing a pack off of the Top-o-Matic or to pre buy supplies.

Anyone feel that it's time for a little old-fashioned American rebellion against our 'masters'?

I've often wondered how many freedoms need to be stolen

Just remember that we have a chance in a little less than 100 days to make some changes. The state and local pols here just found out there are a lot more people in this area that are totally fed up with the tax and spend groups then they thought. They tried to ram a 1% sales tax for transportation through and it failed badly even though the pro group spent 8 million on ads and those against spent $14,000. It failed 63% to 37%. They had to know they were in trouble when the tea party and sierra club came together to fight it.

We see some of the same on here when CASAA manages to get enough people to write and gets enough information to some pols to stop ecigs from being included in smoking bans.

On the subject of this country needs an old fashioned rebellion ...
Just heard on the news that Obama's IRS (and he does pull strings there) ...
will be tax our Olympic athletes for those winning medals.
Oh, that's motivation ... Go for the Gold ... but if you win
then ya will get a big bill from the IRS.

To bad officials at government agencies are appointed and not elected.
Well, just speaking for the public ... The Nanny State just loves the agencies.

Absolutely, and I'm highly surprised it isnt happening yet, because sooner or a bit later people are really going to get more ...... off then they already are and start revolting. Anymore it's like the Govt against the people not for the people like it's supposed to be, and that's just not cutting it, especially since all our politician are on the take one way or another and the biggest Corporations are really just paying to have the laws drawn up they want then pay for them to get voted in.

I had a friend talking about going to the store and making them, and I wondered then how it could be legal, i didnt care though, I was home doing RYO and enjoying it.

The recently enacted federal law defining RYO machines as "tobacco manufacturers" was lobbied for by the large cigarette
companies, convenience store trade assocations and by anti tobacco groups, so its not going to be repealed.

But it wasn't a coincidence that yesterday's CDC report at Consumption of Cigarettes and Combustible Tobacco — United States, 2000–2011 and CDC's press release at Drop in cigarette consumption offset by increases in other forms of smoked tobacco -- ATLANTA, Aug. 2, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- didn't even mention this new federal law (that essentially bans RYO machines) or the dozen or so state laws that were recently enacted to ban, restrict and/or tax RYO machines and/or RYO tobacco.
