Just a heads up guys. If like me you are waiting for a delivery and "Fedex" e-mail you saying they tried to deliver but you weren't in , it's a scam.

I got one last night and was confused as it was written in broken english, the dates were all wrong and the tracking number was not recognised on the Fedex site.

I contacted Fedex this morning and they had a pre-recorded message stating if you receive an e-mail from them it is liable to be a scam as they leave a card after trying to post it not e-mail you. They also advise not to use the "print now" option on the e-mail, to delete it and run a anti-virus scan.

Don't know if this has been posted before (searched but didn't find anything) or it's just a UK thing.

Did mate. What is it trying to achieve? How can sending it benefit the sender?

Typically they redirect you to a website that executes malicious Java code. (If you have a Windows machine) They can then do lots of little nasties to you, from using your machine to harvesting keystrokes.

Just wondering. I have removed java from my machine ( about a month ago ) with no noticeable impact. I guess none of the sites I visit require me to have it. Whenever I am prompted for additional plug-in or whatever ( using FF ), I just ignore and whatever I was wanting to see still works. Also I never open forwarded or unknown email as a habit. I run a pretty tight ship, but, no one is perfect.

But, here is the question. Assuming someone wanted to run malicious code/ key logger, can they still do it if you have removed java?

Sure, it's easy on Windows. I just mentioned Java because it's the easiest, but there are lots of trojans and embedded applets that can execute with privileged access and install surreptitiously. Plenty of phishing scams trick people to masquerade sites too.
