It is a matter of simple math. macs hold about 10% of the market share and PC's hold about 88%.

Using those numbers lets assume macs account for 10% of the trojan market and PC's account for 88% of the trojan market. That would put the number at around 26 or 27 trojans for PC's in the same span of time.

The essential difference being that a vast majority of PC users are already cynical enough to realize how susceptible to these things they are so they will cripple their computers using antivirus software in autoprotect mode. In contrast, the vast majority of mac users have no clue about using anti-virus software and continue to believe they are imune to such threats even after Apple posted a notice last year suggesting to users to protect themselves from malware.

I stand by my statement. Regardless of the numbers, Mac's are safer than PC's.

It's only because PCs dominate market share. Therefore all the bad guys who create these viruses and trojans chose to go after PCs instead of Macs. More bang for their buck that way. If the market share was the other way around Macs would be the target of choice and we would be saying that PCs are safer than Macs.

Hey, I'm not agreeing with Dumwaldo am I ? 8-o

Ya,
Thanks Jim, you ought get into this Mac/PC flame since you probably dual boot Linux for the 'equipment' like i do. it doesn't help not getting a TH since we usually use our PC/Outlook side for email but it sure helps cleaning that ol 'bill's' partition after you're infected.

My oldest son is the Senior Computer Consultant for one of the world's largest financial institutions. I get a heads up notice whenever something like this comes up.

Well we appreciate it Jim----Sun

As long as some people have already been hit with it, try;

Malwarebytes.org

This program removed many malware programs from my machine. The Free version is fully functional and scans & removes malware, but if you want real time scanning, you have to buy it.

Another warning. If any anti-malware program is downloaded, change the name of the file before trying to install it. Some viruses will block installation of a known anti malware program, and changing the name will fake it out. (Another tip from the kid.)

Stop fighting everyone dumbwaldo - oh wait I forgot you're a union gangster!

Anyway, just get AVG free - since I installed this on all my comps I haven't had any problems. The new viruses/trojans are destructive - I've had to reinstall windows like 5x over May because I kept getting the same virus/trojan.

Forget PCs. Forget Macs. Linux is the way to go!

Unless Dumwaldo can find examples of Linux getting hit by viruses or trojans.

yep trying to get a mac book or an Imac soon....stay away from PC's there worthless to many options...hardware choices to software choices. I hate thinking....even after great network training while in the service its still a crappy design. MACS are worth the money. you will have 1000 times less choices.
Fixed your post for you. :D

Lately AVG has been lacking in the free edition. Avast! free edition has been catching many more viruses than AVG. I used AVG for about 8 years and have now switched. Both are available at download.com

For me it was the opposite - avast didn't catch a lot of stuff that AVG caught!
