Feeling Crappy - vape related?

Hi All, I've been vaping for around 10 months now, and I've been 100% off cigs since May. In the last month or so I've been experiencing some symptoms that I think may be vaping related. I occasionally wake up in the morning with excessive mucous having the blow my nose along with a mucousy cough that seems to be pretty deep as it sometimes gags me.

Honestly, it reminds me of my mornings when I'd smoke alot, except everything is clear. Also, my vaping experience is far less pleasant than it was a few months ago. Liquids seem more harsh, and I find myself developing a runny nose quite often. These symptoms aren't an incredibly serious issue right now, but I wanted to reach out to the community, as I'm sure the folks here might be able to provide me with more info than my very oldschool doctor ;)

A brief history of my vaping

Used predominately VG juice from May-June. 18mg
Went DIY from Wizard labs in July-Present.
Reduced to 15mg in July and then to 12mg in August
Use predominately 70/30 PG/VG
Flavors From TFA/LorAnns

Flavors in use since symptoms began:
Chai Tea
Strawberry
Waffle

Gear:
Kangar protank
Evod heads
Vamo V2

Maybe I just have allergies I didn't know about, or maybe there's something else that I dont know about.

I have experienced the runny nose. This started when I vape higher vg DIY juice (100% vg down to 70/30 vg/pg mix 12% nic). I chuck it up as vg produce more vapors in turn creates more moisture which collects in the nasal passage. Also with the higher vg I don't get the dry mouth syndrome.

I'm 9 months analog free and have not had mucus build up.

My allergies are also acting up, sneezing and itchy eyes. I find I cannot vape over 50% pg, anything over that seems to irritate my mouth and throat, even with drinking lots of water. I also can't vape any juice with hazelnut flavoring......even though I'm not allergic to hazelnuts, it is possible that it might be one of your flavorings. Perhaps a little bit of detective work, eliminate one flavor for a while, try 50/50, just juggle things around a bit and see if there's any improvement.

Pollen season is here again for sure. We can react in a negative way to PG, VG or flavorings. That usually makes itself known in a few days, sometimes a couple of weeks. If this is a problem for you, as I see it you have two choices. 1) Change one thing in your juice at a time and see if it gets better. So, lower your PG or VG content or vape unflavored juice for a while. 2) See your doctor. They can test for allergies or anything else that might be a problem.

I have the same symptoms you do and blamed it on vaping at first, then realized it was the same old environmental allergies I always had. You could try a Benadryl, it will make you very drowsy, and if your symptoms improve, it's likely an allergy. Then try what SASmith and Rayden suggest. You also might try your old juice too and see how that goes. It does take a while for an allergy reveal itself. Good luck and congratulations on quitting smoking!

If you want to rule in/rule out regarding the allergy question you could do as suggested and try an OTC allergy medication and see what you get. Personally, I'd recommend Claritin myself.

If you find that helps I'd strongly suggest you follow up with however your health care works to get to an Allergist for testing and management. I never had allergies in my whole life! That is, until I got into my 40's. :glare: I register "extreme" on the reaction scale to tree pollens. And I'm allergic to PG too.

I think trying a med may not be a terrible idea. I live in New York, so there's only a couple of months of nice weather here anyway. Also, I think it may have to do with the changing of seasons. I'll let it go another couple of weeks. If everything's back to normal in October, and I feel kinda rough in the spring/fall next year, I think i have my answer.
